Is the implication of a volitional verb + かな generally that strong ? I thought of the English approximation more as a suggestion to oneself, "I think I will..." with an implied sense of doubt.
Ah, OK. Those types of words can be confusing, because a lot of times they aren't in the dictionary, so it's hard to know how to read them, like 一通り or 二通り (which should be ひととおり and ふたとおり).
