1. でも大人の野生トロールと対決できる一年生はそうざらにはいません。

Is そうざら = そう ("to that extent") + ざら (meaning "commonplace")?


2. 何はともあれ、トロールのあの匂いから逃れられたのは嬉しかった。

What is 何はともあれ? I know that ともあれ means "anyhow; in any case", but I don't understand what 何は is doing. Or maybe the whole of 何はともあれ is just a set expression?

Yes. This would be needless to say, but そう means "to that extent" only in a negative sentence (thus, そうざらに（は）～ない means "not so common").

2)
Yeah, 何はともあれ means anyway, at any rate, after all, or like that.
