Bought the book a while back from YesAsia I believe. I'm a beginner, but mostly to vocabulary - grammar I've got in my head, with two repetitions through two books, it's fresh and it's there to stay. I'm going through the book, albeit very slowly (thanks to lookup of kanji and vocab) and will use this single thread to list all my questions from this particular book. I'm using Tagaini Jisho and google translate, please mention if I am missing out on any other good software or websites for definition and translation.
  • 洋二 : Frequently a subject but could find no definition, what is it?
  • 幸三や太一 : Just verified this, so two names?
  • えいえいとおしあいです : Unable to get a def, referring to game(s)?

Thank you, help much appreciated.

洋二: a male given name

幸三や太一; Yes, these are also male given names.

えいえいと: an onomatopoeic word, expressing to do something with strength
おしあい = 押し合い: squeezing together/jostling each other

  • もぐりこみました
  • 出るさ: what does the addition of 'sa' produce?
  • たよりのないやつち
  • ただ下をむいている
  • わしら:eagle?
  • かれながら: verb+nagara? what is the verb?
  • わしらとす:if 'washira' is eagle, what does the addition of 'to-su' result in?
  • しつこくついてきます: not sure about the words involved here
  • 河童としたやくそくなんて: arrangement or promise with the kappa? とした signifies that the agreement was made with the kappa?
  • かえって命をれらわれるさ: not sure about the rest following inochi...
  • かけまわって: composite verb?
  • おれがいをしてまわりました: how does it translate? Confused about the 'ore' at the beginning as this was a narrative and not speech
  • I frequently see konde or konda added to the end of a word, is it used in the sense of pretend?

Will give fuller sentences next time I note these down! Hopefully not too fragmented.

もぐりこみました
a conpound verb; もぐる + こむ

出るさ: what does the addition of 'sa' produce?
さ is a sentence final particle, expressing intensity here.

たよりのないやつち
I suppose it would be a misread of たよりのないやつ.

ただ下をむいている
just have my/his/her head down

わしら:eagle?
we (わし is a male first person pronoun.)

しつこくついてきます: not sure about the words involved here
しつこく(adverb) + ついて(the -te form of つく) + きます(the -masu form of 来る)

河童としたやくそくなんて: arrangement or promise with the kappa? とした signifies that the agreement was made with the kappa?
Yes.

かえって命をれらわれるさ
かえって命をらわれるさ

かけまわって: composite verb?
Yes. It's "かける + まわる", meaning "to run around".

おれがいをしてまわりました: how does it translate? Confused about the 'ore' at the beginning as this was a narrative and not speech
がいをしてまわりました

The rest are too fragmented, including "konde/konda".

Thanks for translating the less fragmented ones
:roflmao:

  • 一ぴきずつかかってこい: what is the kanji for かかって and does the addition of こい at the end make it more forceful or something? Translates as "bring it on"
  • よかろう: "good" with an imperative ending?
  • よくきたな
  • 河童の大きは、小さな子どもくらいしかありません: in this case I assume さ makes this a "kappa of largeness"? Also what does くらい mean?
