I'm sorry, I am a terrible Japanese Language Student. My hiragana is poor, no?
My name is Mari, （なまえわマリエです）
and I have a Japanese Cultural Problem.
Addiction, affliction, whatever you call it, I have it. Maybe not a rice fetish exactly, but for some reason, Japanese culture, especially its social psychology fascinates me, though I've no formal learning on the subject. It's just an amazing group of hugely diverse people whose thinking processes are totally alien seeming. And yet there's a certain attraction to the thinking, especially the sense of "we" and private vs public selves.
I think I personally find it easy to resonate with the hikikomori phenomena, because of how painfully shy I can be in person, but that doesn't mean I wouldn't love to go to Japan and take a video camera with me and just film forever.

I live in Denver, and am a 31 year old writer (read: unemployed) I have never been to Japan but hope to go soon. My dream is to live there at least a year, and just immerse myself in the diverse cultures therein as best I can. To that end im trying to immerse myself in Japanese language through doramas, anime, music, and even online MMO's and the internet. Which is why I'm here. So, hi!

I guess if your interested in Social Psychology then do you know much about "Nihonjinron"? Or "Theory of the Japanese people".
