Hiya,

1. しかし、あれと全く同じサイズでラベルがきれいにはが されたボトルを三本持ってやって来たのである。

My translation: "However, she arrived carrying three bottles of exactly the same size (as that brought earlier by a boy) and with the labels neatly removed."

I am unclear what あれ refers to. Could あれと possibly mean "with her" (in the sense that she brought the bottles with her)?

2. 共産主義の下では、生産手段は国有化される。

Translation given: "In communism the means of production are owned by the state."

What does 下 mean in this sentence?

3. そして、コンビニの前でたばこを吸っている自分はほか の人にどう思われているのか考えながらオフィスに戻っ た。

I understand that the writer had been smoking in front of the convenience store, and then returned to the office pondering some question. My difficulty is with ほかの人にどう思われているのか. Is it "indirect passive"? Could it mean "what are other people thinking about me?"

4. This is a note on 「読解のスキル」:

展開の意外性、文章から状況や心理をイメージする。

a) I am unsure about the relationship between 展開の意外性 and the rest of the sentence. Does it mean:

展開の意外性から... and also 文章から...?

b) Does the whole thing mean "From the unexpected way in which (the story) develops, and from the style of writing, (try to) visualise the situation and the state of mind (of the author/characters)"?

5. 空巣にやられた。

Translation given: "Our house was robbed while we were away."

How is this sentence parsed? Is it literally:

やられた = 遣られた = We suffered damage
に = from / at the hands of
空巣 = a burglar

1)
窶堋?窶堙ェ refers to the bottle the boy brought earlier, and 窶堋?窶堙ェ窶堙 modifies 窶慊ッ窶堋カ.

2)
It's the same to "under" in English.
Under communism

3)
Yes.

4) a)
Hmm, yeah, probably so.

b)
Yes.

5)
窶堙 simply indicates the doer in the passive sentence.
I was done(=robbed) by a burglar.

Thanks Toritotibe.

5. What confused me is that やられる (遣られる) is listed separately in WWWJDIC with the meaning "to suffer damage; to be deceived". Is this やられる considered a separate verb, or is it actually just the passive of やる?

That やられる originated from the passive of やる. The reason why やられる is listed separately in the dictionary would be that it's mostly used in that meaning.
