Founded in 1897, the Senkounari brand was named after the Sennari gourd of Toyotomi Hideyoshi, the predecessor of the Niwa clan that ruled the Nihonmatsu Domain subsequently. Senkounari (千功成) means "Thousand Merits".

The brewery offers tours to groups of up to ten people that must be reserved at least one day in advance, Sundays and holidays only by appointment. The tour takes about 30 minutes and includes a sake-tasting (500 JPY).

Himonoya launched its new brand, Koshikimine, in 2016, based on the concept of the brewery's previous owner, who passed away the same year. Koshikimine is the old name of the nearby Adatara Mountains, part of Nihonmatsu—sweet and fruity nose with bitter notes. Senkonari Tokubetsu Junmai is full-bodied and rich, with a great deal of sweetness mid-palate that turns into delicate bitterness and umami. It has a long and sour finish. Very deep and elegant. This is undoubtedly one of the best tokubetsu junmai we have ever had.
