Japanese culture and people are no more exotic, unique or bewildering than say the Burmese, Fijians, Greeks or whoever. I think to believe this is the case suggests a very sheltered upbringing which is virtually impossible with the ubiquity of the Internet and all the information that is readily available. Differences in etiquette, eating habits, levels of polite speech (or lack thereof) etc occur in every country but does that make them induce culture shock within the visitor? If they do, then this book is for you.

If you have a modicum of resilience, curiosity and openness then read something other than this book.
