Mid summer gift for my Japanese teacher

Lately I've been planning to send a package of some Polish goods to my Japanese teacher, as an 窶堋ｨ窶吮??ﾅ陳ｳﾆ樽ﾆ稚ﾆ暖 ^ ^
I'm already preparing because it will surely take some time to deliver from Poland to Japan.
This week my mum is taking me to Warsaw for Majowka (a spring trip during consecutive holidays in the beginning of May), so I'll probably buy most of the things there.
I'm wondering if someone could advice me of what kind of goods should I get? I know it should be food, but what else besides fruits, which I won't be able to send, is appropriate? And what besides food in general? Plus, what should I not send?
I'm not planning to make the gift be strictly Japanese窶堋ｨ窶吮??ﾅ陳ｳlike, I'm just kinda using the occasion to show my appraciation. xD

Send what ever you think they would like or find interesting. But make sure to indicate its a gift on the customs declaration and you may want to list any food as snacks or sweets as they can get picky, at customs, about certain foods.

Are you really familiar wih Japanese customs? You are NOT expected to send anything "interesting" for お中元, period.

In addition to local Polish food I wanted to send a photobook of Cracow, a figure like this: , and like this: (these are symbols of my city). I would really love to send them, but is it appropriate for this occasion? Thank you for the replies!

I think you mis-understood "customs" in this context. I was talking about the Japanese customs that have to be cleared at the border before the package would be sent on to the intended recipient. And yes, I do know about those as I have shipped items to Japan before, and been through the customs lines at both NRT and KIX. I would have thought that the phrase "customs declaration" would have been fairly clear.

That being said, even taken the other way, I didn't demand that she send something interesting, I just suggested it.
