Kagoshima-ken is a prefecture. "Ken" means a prefecture.

arnadstephen- I believe it is I that said what you quoted in your post. Kagoshima-ken is beautiful, but that is my humle opinion.

There are many beautiful places in Japan! (Once you get out of the city--!) If you get the chance to travel around Kagoshima and the islands included in that prefecture, go for it! But I'm sure everyone here could list their own favourite place....
