News Honda NSX deployed in Mie for highway patrol

I am not really into cars, but this one looks cool. Now no one can outrun the coppers in Mie.


A Honda NSX police vehicle was officially donated to the Mie Prefectural Police on Monday. The highway patrol unit will deploy it there. In addition to traffic enforcement duties on expressways, the car will be used for public outreach and educational activities.


The donor, a 43-year-old real estate professional from Kusatsu in Shiga Prefecture , shared his inspiration at the handover ceremony at Suzuka Circuit in Mie Prefecture . After seeing other sports car police vehicles, he felt such a car could bring joy to a broader audience. A regular visitor to Suzuka Circuit, he enjoys both spectating and driving there. He is a collector of several sports cars.

The NSX is known as Honda's premium sports car. The donated vehicle is the second-generation Honda NSX. According to the Mie Prefectural Police, this is the first time this model has been used as a police car nationwide. The total cost, including modification expenses, is approximately ¥25 million.

I'm aware that sometimes drivers being ordered to stop by a following police vehicle just don't, and keep on driving, but tho it must happen (bosozoku?), I can't recall reading news of a high speed chase.

In the US, such chases are sometimes criticized since the odds of a high speed crash (and injuries) involving otherwise uninvolved vehicles/people goes up.
