Sad news for train aficionados: the Series 381 (381系) Yakumo Express train, introduced in July 1982 and connecting Izumo in Shimane Prefecture with Okayama, made its last scheduled run on 15 June. To mark its retirement, a farewell ceremony was held in Izumo, with some 120 tourists selected by lottery quietly enjoying the historic moment. Although the 381 Series Yakumo will be retired from regular service, it is scheduled to operate as a special train during peak travel periods.
