To celebrate 350 years, Mitsukoshi department store's main Nihonbashi shop in Tokyo will start selling a set of sweet buns powdered with gold dust and "koban" coins made of pure gold on April 26. The items will come in a two-tiered lacquered box, with the top tier holding nine sweet buns that will be specially made by the long-standing Japanese sweets shop Shiose Sohonke. The lower tier will hold 60 pieces of pure gold replica koban, or oval coins used in the Edo Period (1603-1867), with each weighing 25 grams. The box, which will be available for 25,809,580 JPY (USD 192,000), is a nod to a story about gold coins being hidden beneath a tier of sweet buns.
