I'm not trying to prove anybody's points, I'm just commenting when I think I can help keep the conversation grounded in fact. I was saying that coronaviruses in general are heavily studied, their mutation rates, means of transmission, etc, are all well understood by specialists in the field.
If you don't believe me, I suppose I can start citing random papers on SARS, MERS, and the common cold, but I can't believe that you genuinely don't believe those things have been heavily studied, or that you don't believe they are actually caused by coronaviruses so I'm not sure what the point would be.
specific questions and points...such as when EXACTLY Covid-19 has new mutations, when EXACTLY its basically gone or dying out or when EXACTLY a new mutation will evade our antibodies. 5 years from now 20/20 hindsight will kick in and the medical community will tell us a whole bunch.
These kinds of specifics of course will not be known until after the fact.
Obviously we cannot know when a mutation has formed a viable new strain until
after it happens, it's a random, unpredictable act of nature. We can know the statistical chances of these things happening and the rough probable timetable, but we can't know what
will happen. You also can't be
sure that a virus has been eliminated until you've gone years without an incident (You can still never be 100% sure, but eventually you can be close enough for all intents.) We should, however, know with only a month or so delay what the new case rate looks like, once widespread testing is in place. Collecting, analyzing, and distributing the data will take time of course, but not 5 years. I'm sure there will be papers written studying events in 5 years and even further out, but it's not as if we will be entirely in the dark that whole time.
You seem to be angry at the complexity of nature or at the scientific method itself here, or both. These are difficult problems, and I'm sorry that human capacity to deal with them doesn't meet your approval.
