Dousengi

You wouldn't want to help us out with a little context, would you?

ah you know I just like Japanese and I am studying games development and was thinking of some future studio names and wanted something that sounded Japanese but did not mean anything offensive or odd.

If I heard どうせんぎ I would assume it was based off of some kanji and would try to guess what they were.

which may lead to some odd word huh?

Not necessarily.

What Japanese companies often do is to create/borrow a word that doesn't sound Japanese and then just write it in (usually) katakana.

What to us are "Japanese sounding" words will to the ears of Japanese speakers either sound like Yamato kotoba (Japanese vocabulary that predates the adoption of kanji, or which at least didn't derive from kanji) or they will sound like words that did derive from the borrowing of kanji. And "dousengi" very decidedly and unmistakably sounds like the latter.

Awesome, thanks :)
It just popped into my head earlier when reading the title for the latest forum posts on the main jref page. "Using ようです". I said to myself "youdesu"..."youdesu"..."youdesu".... "Dousengi"...what "dousengi"? what am I saying? Hey that actually sound kinda cool :p

I would interpret it as an unknown/uncommon place name or surname, or miswriting of a proper name (surname, temple's name or like that).
どうせんぎ sounds completely differently from ようです to my ears, by the way.

We can find good examples of those kind names in J-league team names.
サンフレッチェ広島: さん (three in Japanese) + フレッチェ frecce (arrows in Italian)
ベガルタ仙台: ベガ Vega (= Alpha Lyrae) + アルタイル Altair (= Alpha Aquilae)
ヴィッセル神戸: victory + vessel
ガイナーレ鳥取: がいな (a dialect, meaning "big/large/great") + なれ (imperative form of a verb "to become"), i.e., "Become a big/great team!"

Yeah it sounds different to me also I was just saying that I read that and I thought of Dousengi, I never said that it sounded similar.
