Travel A night in monastery (shukubo) on Koya-san

Hello!
So far you've helped me a lot (promise to leave feedback), so here's another question:

I've heard that shukubo on Koya-san could be a great experience.

I do not care so much about the conditions/food (in fact I prefer them as spartan as possible), but being a good listener and having great interest in philosophy, I do look to hear talks/discussions on philosophy or participate in rituals/training as much as possible. I understand that without really knowing Japanese this may be a problem, but still would be grateful for recommendations.

You might have better luck at some place other than Koyasan. Although the analogy is imperfect, Koyasan is sort of like the Vatican of Shingon Buddhism and they're having a MAJOR anniversary this year (1400 years, or something like that). A day visit is possible any time, of course, but anything requiring bookings is going to be tough.
