how did every go with the exam today? I failed N2 bad.

I did the N5 exam. I've been studying Japanese for about one and a half years so it was pretty easy, the only difficult part was the listening comprehension. Even though the level is low, I still think its weird that they only play the recording once. In all other language exams I know of the recordings are repeated.
Also I was surprised at how low they've set the pass mark, it's like 80 / 180 for N5.
Roll on N4 next year!

Took N1 in London. Not sure how I did - I'm always more aware of what I missed. Vocab/grammar actually felt like my weakest this time around. Feel reasonable about the reading, and quite good about the listening. With N2 I felt worst about the listening, partly because I bombed the long ones, but I was much better prepared for the format of it this time. I think not having repeats actually is a better test - especially for stuff like the quick response (not sure if they have those in N5?).
I did better at taking notes this time around as well although I still screwed up the first long listening question - hate those, hate them so much. They're so ridiculously contrived - nobody can just state the conclusion they've come to when it comes to JLPT 聴解, they are only permitted to make oblique references to earlier parts of the conversation.
The scores are weighted in some way so it's hard to know what the pass mark refers to in terms of number of correct questions, but you can see statistics on the JLPT site of passes vs. number of people taking it. N5 pass rate seems to hover at around ~60% or a bit less overall (higher for those taking it in Japan), other levels are lower.

yes, N2 listening was harder than I thought, the speed was faster than previous years. I'll speed up the tapes in preparation for future JLPT tests.

I'm waiting for N1 results now. I didn't totally crash out, but I ran out of time for reading. Of course, I filled in random bubbles when 5 minutes was called, and even read enough more to correct one of them, but, meh. -Still- need to work on my reading speed, obviously. I can't really tell how I did .. I know I didn't ace it, but I may have squeaked by.
Listening was rough but I'm pretty sure I passed that section. The listening for even N1 is easy compared to the NHK news podcast, which I've been listening to regularly. Of course, I don't have 100% understanding of it yet, and also didn't have 100% understanding of the 聴解 test, but I'd guess I 65% or so. Not so good for my personal pride, but it should be plenty for a pass.

One of the questions, I simply blanked on the first 5 seconds or so because of a basic loss of concentration after so many hours of testing. I understood the remainder of the speech perfectly, but having blanked on the critical opening, I couldn't work out the correct answer because all the references were oblique. Most of them I managed to hold my attention all the way through, somehow.
