I also got the call from the embassy this afternoon! Thanks God! I am so happy! I was surprised because I thougt the announcement will be around January-February. Now I am waiting for the university placement, but since I only chose 1 university and got the LOA, I hope I would be placed in my preference lol!

I applied for Hiroshima University, and Kyushu university for my second choice

I don't think the university placements have been finalised yet, as my communication was from the embassy not the university.

Below is the message I received:

Dear 2011 MEXT Applicants,

This is just to update you on your MEXT Scholarship Application. You have now passed the second round of screening which took place in Tokyo. From now, the Department of Education will be negotiating on your behalf with various Universities / Institutions the results of which will be known mid Feb, 2011.
 
Congrats to all! I too got a call today! :-)

The lady told me not to tell anyone because she said a lot of people were not being called yet, so lets pretend I never said anything :P.
 
Dear friends, I am so happy to hear your news!!! I am shaking and my smile is hurting my face, I am so happy for you!!!

No news from my local embassy, let's cross our fingers!!! I'll be expecting the call today or tomorrow since yesterday was a holiday here.

Firstly, I was following this forum for past one month and well I would like to start by a word of admiration for ykk for the will to succeed...
Taints is absolutely correct...this is the second round and if you have recieved any communication from any of the university prof or embassy indication your selection in one of the university, then it is absolutely true! :) :) :)
I have also got a mail from from Kobe University confirming my selection for this university. For best wishes for all of you who got selected and a word of assurance to every one else that no defeat or no victory...is ever final! Keep moving forward!! :)

I also got a positive notice from the embassy, but it clearly informed that the universities will have to accept the candidates now, so it's still far from being a final decision.

That's not quite true. The budget to be voted in January-February applies for the fiscal year of April 2011-March 2012. This budget cannot be for the 2012 candidates, because it's still too early. MEXT will surely get less money for 2011 than they requested from the Ministry of Finance (as it happens everywhere with every institution, you always want more than you can do with, that's how budget requests work), but I guess they won't touch the money allocated for the scholarships. Oh, well, if the difference between requested and given is TOO big, there could be another cut.

I received an email from my professor yesterday. He told me that my application will be approved probably. He is asking me when I would like to go to Japan. Maybe you guys can try to ask your professor now.
 
Dear Elaeis...perfect! This means you are now a MEXT 2011 scholar! 😌 :D
the confirmation of your arrival will be accompanied by your Japanese language classes. Keep us informed about the activity from your embassy as I know professors are telling in advance about the selection but still a final list from embassy is awaited. Although that is just a formality if you have been already informed by your professor. cheerz. celebration time for you. 👍

Whats wierd is, I contacted the only professor on my preferences list and he said he hasn't heard anything from Mext yet.

@destiny2 have you gotten any response from your professor?

I emailed him yesterday about the good news from Japan Embassy, he replied it and said that he just received the MEXT student list, and the faculty office asked him if he want to accept me or not, and he replied yes.
What a coincidence, the student list and the news of passing 2nd selection arrive in the same day :D :D

congratulation to those who received already good news from universities or embassies.I still waiting for news from my embassy and until now no news.I only got bad news from Nagoya where I got and send to my embassy my only LOA.Nagoya univ says that they didn't seen my name in the list.Did anybody from Japanese embassy in Africa got some news.Hear in Burkina Faso we are no news.Always hoping!

Thanks guys, finally for me. Now I can reveal to my friends the news finally....
I've learnt so much from the forum espeically on previous interview questions so I hit all of the questions in the interview.
Thanks a lot, everybody and also the previous kind guys who posted the questions on the forum! Hope to meet you all in Japan!
