MEXT Scholarship for Postgraduate 2011: General Discussions.

I read a book about how to prepare for Monbusho research scholarship, and it stressed that point too; but I really can't understand how they expect someone who just got his bachelor to have significant research skills.
I don't know how it works in your country, but here in Italy you just study and take your exams. That's it (except maybe for the thesis, didn't get there yet).

However, according to my understanding, Monbukagakusho is not a gift given to students that had high grades in college. It's rather a research scholarship given to people that can conduct research which develops the sciences in Japan
Now, conducting a research on your own is not something done only by "exceptional geniuses". Conducting a research simply means examining the latest research in the world in a specific field and trying to enhance it.
For example: suppose that you are a Civil Engineer. You read somewhere that adding tree bark to concrete will increase the strength of the mixture. When you read the research carefully, you find that this happens because of the cellulose concentration in the bark. Now the next step that you can take is that you find a material in other research fields that can enhance the concrete more....

Although my statements above might sound confusing to some of the applicants, you should remember that the final selection depend on your ranking among candidates which means that you might get the scholarship even if you have little research background

I've just had a call from the Japanese Embassy in Iraq
I'm officially a Monbukagakusho
No more qualifications
The new budget to be approved by beginning of January will affect next year candidates only
I'll get the official letter on February

I'M GOING TO JAAAAAAAPAAAAAAAAAAAAAN

My friend just got a phone call from EoJ of indonesia... He said that the embassy people told him that he passed the secondary screening.
Now I'm wating for my phone call. Will I pass, or will I not pass?
Ima watashi no shinzou ga doki doki suru yo!

I have already read that many in this forum received good news, me too
My professor (Tohoku univ) sent me an email saying that Monbukagakusho accept me and he looks forward to see me in April
I hope all the best for all of you people!

Oh gosh! I am soooo tempted to call her....but I'm holding myself back cuz Ms. Yin will definitely inform us if she receives the news right....so I guess patience is still the virtue (I'm just trying to console myself here )

Everybody was waiting for the next announcement coming by mid-Jan to mid-February because the new Japanese budget will be approved around 5th of Jan
It was thought that according to the new budget some candidates will be canceled
However, the embassy has informed me that this budget will not affect current candidates in anyway
The bottom point is:
Whoever will be announced during the next days as a qualified student, will get the scholarship

I think that they didn't cancel any applicant from Iraq because the total number of candidates is only 3 ☝

Just got my news from the embassy, I made it through the second screening. Suddenly I'm excited and scared all bundled up together. It's really happening!!

Best of luck to all of you who haven't heard yet, congrats to those of you who have made it and to those of you who didn't make it this year, don't let a stumble keep you down. Rework your proposal, think about other research options and bowl them over next year.
