Hi everyone...I'm back again after saying good bye 
actually I just received a letter from embassy (of course with a bad news) after they not even respond to my email before.
I am okay now..no more stress..just waiting for next chance to grab!

I haven't been able to log in for the past few days due to tight work schedule. Yeah, it's nice knowing you too. But still, I had always believed that when there's a will, there's a way. I had my fair share of experiences being unlucky in so many ways so I know how it feels. I'm having fear now as I may pass the test but not the interview. And I guess that's what people have termed as luck...getting the right thing at the right time. Well I wish you all the best in your future undertakings

SevenPinkerton, thanks for the web site, that's the english test I have already done. When i checked results, it turned that I have made 4 mistakes in whole test. I don't know is it good enough to pass the test? I hope it is.
hhe, sorry, i don't know nothing about it, it's my first time to apply for MEXT scholarship and, as I can see, in Montenegro deadline for application and time schedule for interviews and test are much more later then in other countries. (i'm not sure did i say it correct, my English is not perfect as you can see but i hope you understand).

But isn't it pointless to contact a professor in Japan and ask the university to send you a letter of acception if you might get a substitute status in the end? For example, the FAQ at the site of Tsukuba University says that you should clearly say to the professor if you're a substitute when you contact him/her.
Normally they tell you after the interview (some days or weeks later) whether you were chosen as a preliminary recipient or a substitute candidate. Substitutes don't have to get a letter of acceptance but only write down the universities you want to attend (plus possible future supervisors). In case you become a receipient later on, MEXT will contact the universities directly.
That's what happens after the interview/tests but as ykk said, the final yes/no comes in february.

Had my interview and Japanese and English tests today!
The tests were fine. The interview, as expected, not so great. I was very nervous and the guy they brought in to interview was a guy from my college- a guy who appears to hate everyone due to his demeanor and completely unsmiling face. I'd met him once before and he was so discouraging talking to that I never visited him again. I was not happy about him being there. Since he's a Japanese historian, though, he knew what to ask and I'm happy I could talk to someone like him.
The Japanese part was the weirdest. They asked if I could speak in Japanese with this guy sitting at the table. I said yes. He then said something very mumbly and mostly inaudible. I said back in Japanese, "What is it you'd like me to speak?" And then he said something extremely simple like to the point that it just baffled me and I didn't know what to say. He seriously just said "Kiku...muzukashii?" I was like.."Uhh...chotto muzukashi...." and not really sure what he was asking. He then did the same damn thing for Yomu, Kaku, Hanasau...and I got really frustrated, having no idea if I was supposed to elaborate or say something more or what. Then he said in mostly English, "In Japan...it appears you will have to speak in Japanese..."
I was SO confused. I then asked if it was ok to talk in English and explained how the language barrier will affect my research and how to overcome it. I might have been cutting the Japanese guy off. I might have been rude. I really don't know. I have been going over it since I left the interview and I'm still so very confused as to what he was saying or wanted me to say.
This is a total rant. But I'll leave it in case anyone wants to know how interviews can go. I doubt I got the scholarship. Not because I wasn't prepared, but because the lady said they're taking only 1 (possibly 2) of us 7. And one of the guys applying knew everyone there, was a JET recruiter, had lived in Japan forever....yeah, he's in, no matter what. I'm out.
I will hear in the next few weeks. I am just glad it's over with and I know what to do next year if I don't get another grant before then.

I also got the email and am scheduled to go in for an interview/test sometime in July! The date has not been confirmed but fingers crossed!!
I`m so nervous! Especially for the Japanese test!!!

The guys was speaking in casual Japanese. He's asking you if you have difficulties with hearing (I'm guessing hearing spoken Japanese - since most Americans are self taught and don't really have experience in conversational Japanese). But he could also be asking you if you could hear him, if he's aware that he's mumbling like you said. Then I think he asked you if you can read, write or speak Japanese? He didn't use the potential form because he's probably thinks most people only know like kindergarten japanese and uses the short form of verbs to make it extra clear. I think you might have over prepared and was expecting full on sentences in the long form. How did you rank your japanese language skills?

I'm new here. I am applying as a research student scholar. I've just received an email this morning saying that I passed the preliminary screening and need to sit for the exam on Wednesday. My research field is on interdisciplinary and information science.
I have a question about the exam. I'm just starting to learn Japanese. I can read Kana and some Kanji, but I certainly have difficulties understanding sentences whether they're written or spoken. In short, I wouldn't be able to answer the Japanese exam. Is that a bad thing? Or was anyone got accepted even without sitting for the Japanese exam?

Well, on one side, the Japanese test will be counted as the other tests! but, if You passed the written exams and didn't do good on the Japanese exam, It's still OK because You'll get 6 months to study it (since You're a research applicant, 1 year in the case of an undergraduate). However, You should work hard on learning it! Do better than Your best!

Hello everyone, i'm new to this forum and actually i'm pretty lost trying to find out the right thread which might have answers to mys questions.
I'm planning to apply for the MEXT scholearship this year. As far as I know, the last date of applying is in December, is that right? Do I have enough time to take my preparation for it?
Most importantly, how should I proceed with the preparation, please someone give me a link to any thread where I can find help or may be some other blogs or books that might help me with the preparation. right now I'm a lot confused and tensed. Plz help me.

Sorry, but as far as I know, the deadline for mext scholarship for postgraduate is at most in June. In most countries it is already after the deadline. But I could be wrong. Read this: http :// www . studyjapan.go.jp/en/toj/pdf/kenkyu_e.pdf (remove spaces).

Thanks for the reply. but, couldn't find the file you are referring to, went to the site and tried to find the file manually but ended up downloading kenkyu_e_2.pdf and kenkyu_e_3.pdf where I didn't find any information regarding the deadline.Please help.
If, I can not apply this year, then I've a lot of time to take preparation(lol) for the next year.is there any book that can help me with the preparation. I saw this ad on google about a site named graduateinjapan . com, the book looks interesting but i'm not sure if I should buy that or not. If anyone you have used that book or know something about that, could you please suggest me what to do.

thanks for ur reply. im wondering if the notice u have received is only for manila applicants? ive seen the schedule in embassy of japan website that the schedule for visayas and mindanao will be between june and july but until now i havent receive any letter from JICC. please let me know the type of exam if thats alright for you after u have taken it. thanks and goodluck. i know u can make it. im 100 percent sure for that.
