Dude, my major is biology. I'm interested in languages so I have spent some time learning Japanese before. Actually, you are quite good at languages I think. Have you taken the JLPT test and which level is that? Just wondering. I'm from CU btw.


No, we are not allowed to take the test sheets home, obviously because the same tests are conducted in different countries at different times.
Also, the English and Japanese test papers are the same for both undergraduate students and research students. For other types of students, I have no idea.

I would greatly appreciate if you guys could point me to where previous applicants who had gone through the interview shared their experience. Any tips? Advice? It's obvious that you have to be prepared to explain your study proposal and have reasons why it's beneficial to carry it out; you have to know the basics about the Japanese culture and such... and the e-mail advised that the applicants show that they've researched the Japanese universities they like to attend.

Ugh, and I thought waiting was tough. Now I'm extremely nervous since I'm going to be with the first batch of people and going in early, and that makes me extremely anxious for some reason.

Thank you! I'm still kind of super excited and surprised. As for the interview, it's going to be on 7/6, Monday. My time-slot is very early; no staying up the night before for me!!

Thank you, thank you! I'm all kinds of nervous and trying to prepare myself. Hopefully by the time the interview comes, I'll be less anxious :joyful:
As for the exam, it was similar to the 2010 scholarship paper. The only part that I found a bit challenging was "find the mistake" part, but I guess I did well enough to be invited back

I'm sorry, do you mean when you've filled the major field in the table of schools attended with more than one major? :? I apologize, but I'm not quite sure what you mean; the application form for College of Tech is different from the one for Research Student. If you can clarify your question, I'll be happy to help if I can.

Yes, unfortunately. In a case where "Diploma or Degree awarded, Major Subject, Skipped years/levels" is above, I wrote more than 1 subject???? :? :?

Hello , i think it's not a problem as you give them an idea about what have you studied in general , actually i think we can not be 100% perfect in the application procedure as they didn't give us an official sample clarifying how to fill in the application form ...and as you remarked the required documents in the embassy website are a little different from what is required in the official document ... but anyway i hope they'll call us for the tests , i can't imagine being not accepted !!!

furthermore, you can apply for AYF too if you are still interested... i think the due date usually in august... but you have to check earlier, as the time the education counselor told me about this last year when i met him after i missed the MEXT deadline...
previously i have the website on my bookmark, but my PC corrupted last month... maybe you can google it...

You can apply directly, even if you haven't finished taking your final exams. You just need to get a letter from the university stating that you're expected to graduate this term. Don't forget to include the previous years/terms transcripts, even if the one for the current term is unavailable at the moment (this you will submit later once it's released).

As for Course vs. Research Student, it's really up to your proposed research (since you're going to be conducting a research either way. At least that's how I understand it) Just do your best on the proposal~ :3

A general question: do we have to be formal in the interview? I mean, is it better to be straight-forward and serious; answer the questions without adding any comments, or just informal, laid-back and funny. I'm asking on other forums and people cannot agree on either.

My sister had passed an interview before she went to France (I think it's similar), she said that one will be questioned about the reasons of continuing studies in that country and stuff like that. I think it's supposed to be kinda formal, since it's an academic interview, but not too much serious! I can give You some tips that I know
- Be early (10 ﾂ〜 15 min) - Be calm and relaxed (You can listen to a music that motivates You while going!).
- You have to show Your self-confidence to the interviewer.
- Don't stare at Your interviewer's eyes.
- Be and look smart. Explain clearly and don't be ashamed to ask for clarification.

I thought so...I need to wait for AYF..but until today it's hard for me to just forget about Postgraduate (Research student) scholarship after waiting for this chance almost a year...such useless

Hello,
Im new here. I sent my application to the consulate in NY. The application deadline was May 28th 2010 and the interview is scheduled between June 14th and June 18th. That doesnt give the consulate much time to review the applications and send out interview notifications but it is now June 6th and I am getting nervous.
Does getting the notification of passing the application stage just a week before the interview seem unlikely? It certainly seems like short notice to me.
Also, after reading through past posts it seems like consulates might set aside a few openings for JET Alumni...I have never heard of this before. There wasnt any information about it on the NY webpage for this years application but is this JET quota is something you have to apply for, or do the consulates/embassies just give alumni some kind of priority??
Anyone who ever interviewed in NY, please let me know what it entailed!!
