i'm fiddling around with Pimsleurs japanese i-iii and part of the course they make the distinction that: "If you say you want to do something you use the form: ...-tai desu", "but if you ask someone if they want to do something you don't use it, and use ...-masu ka" instead.
but elsewhere i've seen people use "...-tai desu ka" as part of asking if someone else wants to do something.
I'd like some elaboration on this, please
