MEXT Scholarship for Postgraduate 2011: General Discussions.

I just wanna ask about the application forms... For those who have submitted already, did you use the forms from the embassy or you downloaded from the website? I opted to download the forms from the site since at least I could type in it and just print it. (I am not confident on my handwriting :)) Anyway... the forms from the embassy is printed in a two-sided manner. For those who downloaded the forms, did you follow the two-side format or you printed one page per bond paper...thanks...hope someone will reply soon since I need to pass my application this week...

I printed my form from the embassy's website on just one side of the paper and I've never seen the forms from embassy. But this is in Malaysia though I assumed it should be the same in every country. Best if you can check with your embassy to ensure a smooth process.

hey guys as you have guessed im new here...hajimemashite!!!^^
i did like blurcheryl...i guess it doesn`t matter since they already want the forms typewritten, but i wonder when the first selection is usually made?? because the deadline is today (16th May 2010 3:00 PM)....and i can`t deny that the feeling of anxiety has started show up with me ^^;
Good Luck Everyone ^^

Hey there follow Jordanian! 🙂
As for your question: the people at the embassy said that they shall call during the next week after they finish 'document screening'! So, hopefully you and I both will be called up next week :-) After that, an English test will be held during the first week of June. Again, they will call to tell you the date, so now all you have to do is wait!

Good luck!

but we will certianly be called by the embassy!! ... ^^
Thank you pout and good luck 👍

i guess waiting is the most diffcult process for this scholarship

Haha..that is soooo true

though I can't generalize my case because the process is differ from one country to another and from one year to another but here the list of waiting time that I must went through last year :
May 22 -- document submit deadline
July 4 -- announcement regarding written exam and interview (document selection passed !!)
July 13 and 15 -- written exam and interview
July 31 -- announcement that I passed the embassy selection !!!
September 1 -- Deadline for submitting application document and Letter of Acceptance from university in Japan
December 9 -- My Professor contact me that MEXT already contact him
January 5 -- Tentative announcement from my Embassy
Feb 23 -- Official announcement from embassy !!!

the waiting was tough...

guys how did you answer the question in the application form" 4. Present status with the name of the university attending or employer"?

another thing did you get a recommendation letter from your employer (or last employer) if you currently don't have a job? or once you don't have a job you are not required to get a recommendation letter?

Thanks again

I wrote unemployed..and yes I am not joking..I did write that

Thanks again

I just attached the recommendation letter from my previous employer without using the recommendation form from the embassy.

Thanks arap for the quick reply... We'll I hope they will not take it against us if we are unemployed the moment we applied for the scholarship. I'll also put unemployed I think... :)

for the other applicants... how did you answer the question?

Don't worry they wont take it against you if you are unemployed, I had the same doubt as well last year but hey..here I am..they granted me this scholarship :-)

@ arap - Wow... congratulations... I hope I can also be granted... :) I have to pray a lot... thanks for answering my questions... :)

Hi ekoy,
No, it's never too late. Thanks for your wish. We still need the luck IF we pass the test :p
If I remember correctly, you're one of the scholars of the previous batch. So, how are you doing in japan?

Hello!

Have faith in yourselves! ^^. I'm doing fine over here, tho' the weather here can be a bit strange sometimes. Gambatte ne!

umm, I have a question...has anyone any idea about how detailed should be the research schedule? since theoretically the scholarship is for 2 years, should it be detailed by months AND weeks? how did you guys fill in the research schedule?

Thanks!

Say if you've obtained a favorable consent from the first professor whom you've contacted, do you still move on contacting the second, third and so on..you know, just in case?
I'm asking because I understood from previous batches that they contacted a few professors because their first contact was either not responding or giving negative replies and they can't afford the time to just wait for the answer from one. As for us now, if we start sending emails to professors, I'm sure we'll have ample time to wait for the replies

I don't think it hurts to have backups. You never know when you might find something about University 2 that you like more than University 1, for example. ^_^

@kyn: Most professors in Japan translate their work into English at some point. Have you looked for their webpages? I found mine through the English version of Keio's website. Do your university choices not have English websites?

Arigatou gozaimasu.

I supposed you're preparing for your entrance exam in Handai, right? All the best to ya;-)

Hey akaitsume,

Thanks for your reply. Yeah i suppose it's safer to have backups. Somehow I hesitate to do so cuz I feel bad to go to another professor when the first one had agreed on supervising me.

Question for those who have been accepted or finished your application.
For the 3 questions;
1-present field of study 2-research theme after arrival 3-study program in japan

How much did you write?
I guess for #3 they want you to go into full detail so that question should be the longest, but what about the other 2?

Also, how long is the research program for? I want to break down my research into a timeline but not sure of the time given. Is this time changed if you choose to do the research and masters program?

Thank you :)

hello again. I have some questions.

1) The attachment application form needs to have one original copy and then 2 copies (photocopies/xerox copies). Regarding the picture pasted in the original form, when you photocopy the form, the picture will also be photocopied right (since it is already pasted in the application form)? or do I need to paste a picture again in the even in the photocopies? (because the picture will appear black&white in the photocopy.

2) because it is said that we need to submit 4 3.5x4.5 pictures. And in the three application forms we need to paste 1 picture each (since the application form is required to be original so 3 orig copies = 3 pic) and then we need to paste one pic in the original application form attachment. So that explains the 4 pictures that we need to submit? So correct me if I'm wrong. thanks...

CMIIW, what I want to say is..you can't be too good in this application process. Attaching original photo to the copy form certainly look better rather than only copied picture so do not worry too much, why would they reject it if the application look nicer :-)

can someone give a small hint about how was the japanese exam? 2kyu level?
all texts to read and answer questions?
I'm having private classes with my japanese teacher but I'm not sure what to practice.

Cheers & good luck for all of you!!! 🙂

Hey tomayto,

I used to read other threads and came across few of your posts. All the best to you (also to myself:giggle:). Correct me if I'm wrong but I recalled Ms Yin telling us that the result will be out in 3 weeks time from date of examination (May 9). Two weeks have passed without news.
