You do not have enough posts yet to add URLs to third-party websites. what does it mean?

Just as it says. You need to have a certain number of posts on the site before you can post a URL. I think its to protect from spamming of advertisement URLs.

You seem so desperate to post URLs.... what site are you looking to advertise? What are you trying to sell? 😊

Well if he gets to 25 and then starts linking to non-related links (spam, porn, etc.) The ban hammer will fall long and hard upon him.

Well..
He probably won't do that. ^^

I found the limit annoying when I fist started posting here and wanted to refer someone to some good page. Yet I managed. ^^
It's an interesting idea. Something that I haven't encountered anywhere else though.

Cheers!

I've encountered it before. A religious site that wouldn't allow URLs to be posted until you made 100 posts. Couldn't even PM other members until you made 100 posts.

Having the "You can't post links yet" message show the number of necessary posts would save us from questions like this.

If the link is that important - put it in your signature file!!
Sorry, but you are violating JREF rules with signature having a hyperlink to a commercial website.

Your first link has been edited out.

Oops, sorry about that! This looks like a great forum about Japan, but it takes some getting used to! I edited out the commercial link - check my sig file!!

The point I made earlier, though, is still valid, if the link you want to make is not a dreaded commercial link, then you can put it in your sig file.

Just an observation, but the forum seems a bit too defensive and rule-bound to me.

1. 25 posts before adding a link in the main post...

2. no commercial links in the sig file...

3. I got timed out while writing a longer contribution on another thread...

4. I have to remove my shoes and put on carpet slippers before entering the inner sanctum...

5. I have to remove carpet slippers and put on plastic toilet slippers when entering the toilet.

6. I must not forget to remove toilet slippers when leaving the toilet...

Okay, I got a bit carried away there, but how about loosening up a bit?!

Oh, and one more thing I forgot about - the 120 second rule before posting again. I mean, come on! Do you want us to contribute or not?:p

The rules are there for reasons to make the fora friendly for contributing members and not for spammers and trolls.

You're welcome to contribute to JREF as long as you don't insist on adding the hyperlink in your sig.

If you insist on the link, you're very welcome to contribute elsewhere.

Before we had the 25 post rule, and the 120 second rule, we had this Korean spammer whom signed up with different I.P. addresses all the time. He posted about 30-40 posts within 20 minutes, saying how he washes his *** with Japanese people their faces, links to anti japan websites, and posting images of the second world war with Japanese soldiers without heads... (every week)

I rather have someone like you complaining about the 120 second rule, the image/ url rules, than having this **** on the website.

Enjoy your stay on the forum.

To aviod spammers from putting up URLs to porn, advertisment sites, etc. It has been explained in several ways and quite a few forums have this in place. It is just on this one that it is automatic. I know of sites where mods will remove URLs before x number of posts. This way makes our lives a little easier

2. no commercial links in the sig file...
Again it could be spam. If you wish to advertise there is a classified section within Jref to do so. I really can't see your problem with this, unless you have an ulterior motive for coming here.

3. I got timed out while writing a longer contribution on another thread...
Remember to click the remember me box when logging on. Usually the reason why this happens

Again it stops spammers from joining and putting up thread or post after post within a short time. Before our little pet korean troll could put up 20 to 30 threads in a matter of minutes. This at least slows them down. I'm sure if you really want to contribute you can wait for two minutes.

Today is a new day!

Hello again!
Thanks for explaining the situation. I felt like I had strayed into a Japanese house with my big muddy boots still ON!!😌

I'm actually a forum moderator on another forum and contribute to several other forums, not ones about Japanese culture, but business and Internet marketing . We get spam, but not so bad as the stuff you mentioned here.

For "us" it is standard practice to allow links to people's online businesses in the sig file - so I assumed it was a universal forum practice.

I still believe that the business and the blog that I had in my link file will be of interest and value to some of the readers of this forum, but I'll build up some credits first before I mention them again!

Yesterday, it seemed like everything I did on this forum raised some sort of difficulty or objection. Anyway, that was yesterday, and I've had some sleep since then, so let's start with a clean slate!!🙂

Doh! It applies to inserting pictures into posts as well, even if the pictures are on this site in the JRef Gallery!

I agree with the "rules" or anti spammer measures. They are very important to keep forum quality high (ignoring those posts that get off topic and start arguing about nothing of any relation to the original post;) )

The thing I don't understand is why a new user can't post an external link in the forum dedicated to external sites!

Oh well...
