Most people people love christmass. But some thing think it's depressing
Coples get fights about making the christmas feeling.
Others have to miss their beloved ones (like me)
Others hate it to be single at christmas and that makes them sad (like my brother)
People wich lost special people miss them..

Do you have a feeling like it and do you like to share it ? Or am I totally wrong and are there no feelings like that ?

Yeah, for a while, every Christmas I realize that I don't have a life. Always either study or play games/watch anime. I have exactly one friend, so thats there to make up for it, since he truly is a great mate, gonna visit him in a couple of days, watch Evangelion once again, and have a couple of laughs at http://www.dead-baby-jokes.com lol.
So for a few hours probably im gonna feel down, but hell, watching Eva drunk makes up for it.

I used to feel depressed at Christmas when I was in Alaska and away from my family. There can be depressing moments still, but probably the worst thing now is the disruption of regular life (which can also sometimes be nice), and the added stress that seems to pervade the air around Christmastime. There's more traffic on the road with travelers driving to different states to visit friends and family, and drivers seem to be more impatient and less forgiving with each other (which is ironic at the time of year when we supposedly put aside our differences and accept each other!).

It's gotten to be such a commercialized holiday here in the U.S. I don't go near the local shopping mall area these last few days before Christmas. I made that mistake once, and the parking lot was so congested it was bumper-to-bumper and moving inch by inch. It took about 30 minutes to get out to the road, which was also very busy.

But it is nice to have a dinner with my family, and since this year we don't have visitors, my parents have agreed not to have turkey or any other meat (since I'm vegetarian)! So I'm looking forward to experimenting with a veggie pot pie, and visiting with neighbors.

I like Thanksgiving in the USA more than Christmas. It's not so commercialized and it's about being thankful and having family and friends around. Christmas and most holidays can be sad. I don't think that is unusual. You remember family members who are not with you either through distance or death, and that can be sad. I like to remember the fun times though, that helps. I feel down about this Christmas because I don't have the spirit in me to do much. I have no decorations up, no tree, nothing. I feel like I let my husband down because he really wanted a real tree. I've been sick so it just isn't going to happen. We may not even go out for Christmas. I managed to get double pneumonia! It's frustrating because there is so much I want to do.

In Japan, Christmas is a couple's holiday, akin to Valentine's Day. Accordingly, there's a lot of heartbreak and suicides around this time of year in Japan. So I guess you aren't alone at all ;)

Christmas is nowhere as lonely for me as New Years is. Having no family around makes for a lonely New Years season.

Christmas just doesn't do it for me anymore. My dad died ten days before Christmas in 1999, ever since it just isn't the same.

I'm estranged from a large amount of my family, so on top of finding Christmas a naturally depressing time anyway (longer nights, lack of sunshine and crass commercialism) it usually results in a pretty torturous 24th/25th.

I have mixed feelings. My favourite part of Christmas is the time off work. Even though I love my job, it's still good to get a couple of weeks off, and for some reason I always feel I can relax more at Christmas. At other times of the year I feel guilty if I don't do something useful each day. But at Christmas I feel like it's OK to lie around playing video games all day 😊

The part I don't like is how repetitive it is. We do the same thing year in, year out, and I just don't have the courage to tell my family I want to do something different this year. That's kinda depressing. But I can't imagine what it must be like to not have the option to see my family over Christmas.

I think Christmas can for many folk bring what you don't have into much starker relief. I sure will be in that boat this year, and I know a few other dear Jref-ers have also lost loved ones recently and will feel the same way.

I'm thinking of you all.

Yes, somehow the Christmas holidays do bring out what we miss - maybe because it's usually a time of getting together(?). I wish you a happy Christmas though, MOS, and everyone else who is faced with a loss this year.

The older I get the more numb I feel about Christmas. Acutally, I should say that for any holiday, including my birthday. Holidays just do not mean anything for me anymore. I just take it one day at a time, and try hard enough to enjoy that day rather than getting into a tizzy over such trivial matters such as holidays. Besides there is too much death that has happened on holidays in my family to actually enjoy them. In other words, I really don't see the point anymore.

My Christmas is now officially depressing. My dad's oldest sister died on Saturday, now I just heard that his oldest brother died this morning 😭

Every christmas for me is bad. We always fight on the christmas eve. And then we just pretend that we are such a great family. Makes me sick.

I've become more and more unenthusiastic about Christmas as I grew older. It's always the same hassle, pretending to be so excited for the sake of my siblings, preparing for the party, entertaining guests... I guess maybe Christmas with my family has become really monotonous, too. It's the same every year.

I think I felt more in the Christmas spirit when I was still living on-campus, before classes were over. I actually wanted to celebrate with my friends.

I am very sad to hear this, Tsuyiko!
My deep feelings for you and a warm hug!

Someone's father died the day before christmas, in a nother community, which must be even worse.

Such things make me sad too, because such shadows last long.
But on the other hand, if one is not so addicted to having to be happy or going with the commercialism, it is just another day in life.

I have a very sweet daughter, who invited me for a dinner, and a friend also came around. We had a fine relaxed time. Very often she goes to the other family members in another country, mostly, because they are pretty old now, and one never knows, when will be the last time together (The father died very early, but the grandparents are well and over 80 now and love her very much, and my own parents both don't live any more).
For me thats OK, other family members of us are not in town, and we usually see them later on anyhow, when we feel like.
For me it never was depressing (even if I hardly do much extra for Christmas), because I hardly have the time anyhow, to do everything I want, and when I am busy with whatever, there is no down around. I suppose, thats my character.

Some warm greetings to the depressed, cheer up and just enjoy life, while you can and make the best out of it, please.🙂

I can emphasize with you. One of my best friends since my teen years died this morning. It wasn't totally unexpected, but upsetting anyway.

I get depressed at Christmas because I have to spend so much time with my family. I spend 70-80% of my life in direct contact with them, and at Christmas there is nothing to do so it goes to 100%. I just want some time alone. Therefore my Christmas Wish is that next Christmas I can be a bit more alone.

mebbe we should start calling Christmas Kurushiimasu instead....then it would be fitting for all those that are depressed :?
