Crime Tokyo influencer fatally stabbed during live stream

A young Japanese influencer was fatally stabbed while live streaming on the street in Takadanobaba by a man police identified as a disgruntled follower. The victim, 22-year-old Airi Sato, was heard screaming for help before her livestream abruptly cut off, leaving viewers alarmed as emergency sirens echoed in the background. Concerned fans flooded the chat with frantic messages all the while.

Tokyo Metropolitan Police announced yesterday that they had charged 42-year-old Kenji Takano with murder, stating he attacked Sato the day before in a student-heavy district. Takano, who was arrested on-site, reportedly admitted to the stabbing but claimed he hadn't intended to kill her.

According to the police, Mr. Takano used a survival knife to stab Ms. Sato in the head, neck and torso while she stood looking into her cellphone camera on a busy street. Ms Sato, a live streamer with more than 2,600 followers, was filming herself as she made a circuit of major train stations. Although efforts were made to revive her, Ms Sato died after arriving at a hospital, police said. [...] The police said that they believed this was not a random attack. They said Mr. Takano appears to have been a follower who said he once lent Ms. Sato a large sum of money that she never repaid. The police said this may have led Mr Takano to hold a grudge against Ms Sato. While she didn't disclose beforehand where she would be streaming from, Mr Takano tracked her down by recognizing the buildings behind her, according to local media reports citing police investigators. The aftermath of the attack was also captured elsewhere online, as passers-by posted photos on social media of Ms Sato lying collapsed and bleeding on the street.

I cannot say how stupid it is to stab someone, let alone a 22 year old woman, over thirty times for money she didn't pay back. This man should've talked to her and worked it out, but no. And then claiming that he didn't intend to kill her is ridiculous. If this man doesn't get at least life imprisonment with a chance of parole often maybe 20 years or so, then this justice system is absolute BS. (Not that America is much better)

It was reported that he suffers from mental issues. Whatever the outcome, he'll remain institutionalised for a very long time.

Multiple sources are saying that this was an "Attempted Murder."(WRAL.com and NewsBreak.com) How does stabbing one thirty times in the head, neck, and torso qualify as "Attempted." According to the Miranda Rights Law Firm, "A second degree might be intentional but could be unplanned. The accused person might act out of anger and commit the offense." This would qualify as Second degree murder in the US, but Japan doesn't have degrees of murder, if I remember correctly.

I think it's safe to say the charge will be murder given that the victim died. Those news organizations are just aggregators and they probably use AI too so I wouldn't put too much stock in the wording they use.

Classic DailyMail, absolutely disgusting. I love the UK but a large part of the media is awful and treats anything with even a smidge of newsworthiness as fair game - no matter how tragic the story behind it is.
