I'd love to hear about your recommendations for various Japanese site of interest to tourists. Of course people with different places will have different opinions, but we'd all like to hear about those that are worth the time and have the best bang-for-the-buck deal.
Kyoto : I found my experiences at kiyomizudera and kinkakuji temples to be fabulous experiences. Anyway I read about them in textbooks so I really wanted to experience at least a part of ancient Japan. There are some smaller temples that charge the same as those two, so unless you have money to spare you really have to pay attention to the admission fares wisely. Normally they are 500yen each.
Nara: houryuuji temple is the best bang for the buck deal. For one decent price you get to see the entire complex that is full of national treasures. This is a must-go for any tourist going to Kansai region
Osaka: Dotonbori is probably the brightest price I have ever been to at night. Even kabuki -cho or ginza are no match for this place. Good place if you are interested about 'modern consumeristic Japan'
Nagasaki: Orlanda-saka has pretty well preserved houses from the old days where Dutch traders used to live. Although Nagasaki is more infamous for the a-bomb, it is a fairly charming city.
