First, YoAni Gakuin is sadly not a University, It's a Senmon Gakkou (Specialist School). You will graduate with senmongakushi.
Second, there is no senmon gakkou that have their classes in English at all, not like some University like Waseda. The minimun requirement for foreigner usually either pass 1. Nihon Ryuugaku Shiken (EJU) with 200 pts up. or 2. Pass JPLT level 2. or 3. If you dont have either first 2 then you have to pass their Entrance Test.
Tho not alot of senmons have foreigner in the school, some probably dont even have 1, like the one my friend is going in Ikebukuro, Sougei Geijutsu Senmon Gakkou. Since theres no application from a foreigner before they never prepare a special test for foreigner thus you probably have to take the test that other Japanese take, which usually means you need higher Japanese Ability then JPLT level 2.
All of the senmons starts their class at April like University, so you have to wait till next year if you dont plan to apply now
Since I'm going to Senmon Gakkou this April like you are planning to go, here's some advice.
Go to a Japanese school for 1 year minimum. IN Japan. Go to Yamasa or whatever that can help you pass JPLT level 2 or higher and if possible choose a language school that are near to the school you're applying. Why?
- The Senmon Gakkou class will be in Japanese and you will be in class with other Japanese, you need the skill to understand them.
- Because most senmon gakkou only accept application directly from the person, you need to go there and hand in the application.
- Unlike university, senmon gakkou haves a few special event, like open campus, Setsumeikai (you can receive a very detail explanation about the course at this time and you can QA with the teachers), Taikennyuugaku (You can join in the 1day class and see if you like it or not, like a test drive)
- If there is a teacher that are in charge with 'Shingaku' in the Japanese School you will be studying, they will help you out in applying with the senmon that you want. or recommend you a better one.
Well, I don't know if yoani is a good senmon gakkou or not It does looks its a good senmon with high employement rate for Japanese students ( mine's is
) but theres is a LOT more senmon gakkou scatter around in Tokyo. If you were to change your mind, theres alot more other senmon to choose from. And I(or someother people) in this forum can probably recommend you a few other senmon that I had went there personally and check out everything, if you're interested.
note : It seems all the senmon level/ranking is based on employement rate. Which I can understand why.
On the side note, Senmon gakkou is expensive! But seems you're from UK, the senmon probably wont kill you as much as it's killing me with the exchange rate. Or theres probably a chance that you'll see the senmon cheap and stuff from your point of view. And most senmon that i went to visit really have a nice facilities prepared and motion capture studio seems like a must in every senmon with game/anime course, with that kind of fee I'll kill them if they dont have up-to-date facilities.
Rio
I apologize for the frequent use of Japanese word like setsumeikai, taikennyuugaku and stuff, since I have no idea how to say it in English.
Edit :
The fees for YoAni Gakuin that I found on the site.
Highest fee is the tokyo branch : 650,000yen first year 540k for second
lowes is in Fukuoka branch with only : 600k yen for the first then 512,000yen
the dorm fees seems like to be 420yen / year
IF im reading it correctly that is. if it is DAMN its cheap.
since most senmon, 550k yen / year is only for 1 semester.
2nd edit :
Oh theres an extra charge every year.
around another 250k to 300k per year.
Still looks cheap comparing to other senmon.
