I stopped by an Antique shop and tucked away in one of the cases , I spotted this Cap !! There was a paper booklet folded up inside it. I called the Gent over , he opened the case and handed it to me ...it looked a felt right. The Fabric even had that stiff old feel to it but not to the point that the fabric would deteriorate, just age showing. I know collectors prefer finding textbook examples but during the War , not everything was textbook so we have to think it out and judge the item itself. I'm use to seeing the examples with Vent holes , this has no vents plus, there were no markings. But the early versions had no holes and , examples used in Colder regions also didn't have holes ..plus it had no provisions for a neck Flap and that would make sense if you're wearing it in the cold lol. My guess , this must have been a custom or tailor made Cap ...it even has a cheesecloth type liner and it's well made so, I didn't see any redflags and made him an offer .I always wanted a clean example for my collection and ...glad I found it. Also ...if any of you can translate that paper and let me know what it's for , I'd appreciate it . I Hope you like it
