I've just returned from a city break in Copenhagen and what an amazing place it was and an example of how high taxation if well-utilised, produces a bit of a utopia. The roads were wide and in perfect condition, there was no litter, the public transport was just incredible and reasonably priced and so I used it a lot, there was no graffiti unlike the rest of Europe which is smothered in it, all education is free, all healthcare is free. Perhaps this is politically incorrect but I have to mention the Danes are so beautiful, tall, well-dressed people; women who looked like models, serving in restaurants or shops seemingly oblivious of their stunning appearance, men who looked like they live in the gym, chiseled jaws but dressing modestly with that Skandi chic but they were so pleasant despite it. I felt like a particularly ugly ewok walking amongst them. I was walking down the main shopping area when I saw two young, blonde, tanned ladies, clearly twins, wearing identical knitted mini dresses and boots. Much to my shame, I obviously stared at them a little too long as they walked toward me, they both looked in my direction, I expected a scowl and an 'f- you' but they gave me a wink, a laugh and carried on walking! Phew!

However, I'm pleased to report, their weather is sh*te which makes me feel better!

Maybe the twins like ewoks? When every man is a chiseled Adonis, that becomes so run of the mill. An ewok, by comparison, is exotic and novel. One might daresay cute and cuddly.

I think you may have missed your chance. Quick! Time for another city break!

Not in the way ewoks want to be liked 😔

Just what every male ewok wants to hear, "I like you! You're both cute and cuddly. Now, where's Timothée Chalamet/Zac Efron/Chris Evans?"

Too late, they've gone off with Timotheé/Zac/Chris and they've taken their boots with them! <sigh> At least I still have my books…some of them have hard covers 🥲

I should add that after the experience of travelling to Copenhagen, I am never going on holiday again. I arrived at Bristol airport at 04:30hrs and it was packed; there was nowhere to be seated and, to my disgust, nearly everyone was drinking beer and wine! 4:30am! I felt ashamed to be British by this and the general way people were conducting themselves. There were delays, hot airplanes and despite wearing an FFP3 mask on the plane and all crowded areas I've caught a streaming cold!

That's it! No more travelling for me.

I guess it is a rare sight indeed to see an ewok outside the moons of Endor. Now we know why.

This makes me feel so much like Sir David Attenborough (mixed with a fair share of George Lucas)!

I've caught colds seems like more than half the time when I travel but just got back from Japan yesterday and so far feeling good. Fingers are crossed I made it through this time.

In all seriousness, my wife caught Covid-19 during a trip from California with a layover en route. Somehow I managed to stay healthy.

Yes, because Ewoks tend to fly by KLM because they are very careful about their money, some would say, miserly, but hey, the moons of Endor are an expensive place (is that where Ewoks come from?)

99 years old and the inventor of Jar Jar Binks? You have my sympathy…

The aircraft cabin is an enclosed space and they don't change the air filters as often as they might. So you only need a few infectious people on the flight, coughing and spluttering to fill the air with sufficient virus to spread the infection.

I blame my bubonic plague (yes, I'm that ill…might be a bit of ebola in there too) on my other half. She refused to wear an FFP3 mask plumping for a bog-standard surgical mask (which are supposed to be changed every 20 minutes along with surgeons gloves, by the way), she started exhibiting symptoms mid-holiday and I must've caught it from her; our hotel room was the size of a Tokyo business hotel's. Luckily she's an Ewok too…🤔…(thank goodness I didn't go out with one of those stupid space bears (Wookie).

So try wearing at least an FFP2 mask on flights but ensure everyone else in your part does too. Also sanitise your hands regularly and frequently.

You can rediscover your lineage by rewatching Return of the Jedi, where the ewoks made their first appearance to popular consciousness.

It's an underappreciated fact that Jar Jar is actually a sith lord. Kind of a drunken master type.

I've only seen the first one in 1977 as a small boy. I thought it was childish even then!

My knowledge of Star Wars comes directly from 'Big Bang Theory' so it limited.

FYI, my little factoid about Jar Jar is actually just a fan theory. One I know of at only the shallowest of levels.
Some people take it quite seriously, though. Some people take all of Star Wars very seriously. Very. Seriously. Too seriously. It makes you wonder if they genuinely realize it's just a made up story to entertain people and grab a buck or two while doing so.

Well, to children it feels real 😑

Yay! Me too 🤗 I like intelligent SciFi which some of Star Trek was, although the original series is sometimes hard to watch these days not least for its overt sexism! The Next Generation had some incredible episode (The Inner Light, for example). The problem for me, regarding Star Wars, it that it isn't SciFi, it's fantasy. It's more akin to Lord of the Rings/Legend/Labyrinth than it is to say, 2001: A Space Odyssey.

I once met Leonard Nimoy at a talk he gave in the main Church of Scotland in Edinburgh when his book 'I Am Spock' came out. They say you shouldn't meet your heroes but Nimoy was incredible; charming, urbane and made time for his fans. I miss him 🥲

Did someone mention Lord of the Rings and Leonard Nimoy in the same post?

I'll bet you never knew you needed that.
