I am working with my company on a 3 year expat assignment in Japan. In reviewing the process they asked me to disclose any past arrests and or convictions of criminal charges. I was convicted of a DUI in 1986 and have not had any issues since then.

This will not be an issue for my company but I am wondering if it will be for the the Jananese work visa or immigration application process.

Does anyone know how they treat this type of conviction in the process?

They are looking for felonies. A 13-year-old DUI is pretty low on the boilerplate for them to consider you unfit.
