For those of you who don't download updates automatically, I.E. 6 is now outdated. I downloaded I.E.7 yesterday from Microsoft in about 2 minutes on high speed internet, restarted, and had no problems so far. You have to re-input a few settings like your start-up page, and the looks and placement are changed a bit, but over all, no bugs or trouble(yet).

PS - Chat fixed yet; anyone know?

I got it, now I can't open my hotmail account anymore, I can't open any sites with the damn thing. My outlook 2003 crashes because **** got whiped. Thank you MS ! You bunch of a-holes! If those retards think I'm ever gonna use that Vista of theirs, they're seriously mistaken!

IE is always outdated...Switch to FF 2.0. I've done some web development and the worst part was making it work for IE because its so outdated. (It really hates CSS).

I'm really disapointed with the offerings from microsoft of late. I'm on the betas for Windows Live Mail, Windows Live Mail Desktop, & Windows Live Messeger etc etc--- and they are just not adding the features that I would expect from a next-generation of software.

That said, I'm not entirely keen on Firefox whatsoever--- the only reason I use it is for plugin support (rikaichan mostly) and well, uh that's it. IE7 does everything that firefox does, and in tabs, a little better----

It's actually a fanboy myth that Firefox somehow 'plays better' with CSS than IE, it's just complaint in different ways--- Full WC3 compliancy is probably lacking in BOTH browsers.

Hum... I've noticed the recent versions of Firefox eat up a lot of memory...so I'll stick with opera isntead...

I use Opera as well. I wonder if the new IE surpasses it, function and speed-wise.

I don't like how things are drawn in Firefox; things always look a little bit 'scrappy'.

It's not a myth, as anyone who has spent many years writing websites can testify. IE is the source of most web developers headaches.
Just for your info, here's a pretty good site showing browser CSS support.
That's the thing, I think that web-developers who are firefox dependant, who are generally MAC dependant say this same thing--- Generally speaking, Microsoft has the muscle to push standards and I think that's a GOOD THING, and they do--- The only complaints I've heard are from web developers who develop primarily for firefox who find that these things don't work on IE. They're developing in some sort of rarified air of percieved standards, rather than developing as best suits market saturation--- It's all wishful thinking at best.

Any good programmer will tell you, you program against the interface, meaning you program for what the dominant interface will allow---- not vice versa--- Not what the language may specify---- It's true that accross versions, IE has a poor rating for accepting the same standards, pages simply don't look the same--- But it hardly matters--- The problem is that, people start and say, "Oh well, these standards work with FIREFOX, so I'm going to base my design around THAT---", then you have the remaing 89 percent market share owned by IE who cant use the same features and you're screwed...

I get the feeling we are slipping off topic...

I'm not sure why some web-developer would be browser dependent... A good web-developer would have multiple versions of multiple browsers at hand. I could understand some may not have access to a Mac and PC though. Maybe I'm missing your point. I for one am neither Firefox or Mac dependent.

I'm having a hard time thinking of any... care to help me out with some examples?
All I can think of in regards of something they've pushed are <marquee> or VBScript for client side scripting... but I think these were spawned during the browser wars and just one of many ways of trying to lock users into their platform.

Develop primarily for one browser? These people should be flogged.

Erm... now I'm a little confused. Are they developing for Firefox or for standards?

I wouldn't say this applies to the domain of the Web though. The ideas behind the Web are to have this heterogeneous platform for sharing information, not for one browser (or even a few) to be considered the only portals to access it. Writing to standards future-proofs your content. Writing to one browser has only short term gains (maybe that's enough for some).

So... from a user's point of view... you are saying they should go with Firefox right? That way they can make the most of the web. And in a way, IE is playing catch-up... Yeah I get that feeling too.

Opera has always had one of the fastest rendering engines around and offers so much in terms of function, if I were you I'd stick with Opera.

I loved opera, but since the v9 I went back to Firefox. Opera crashed too much, too slow, etc. I had nothing but problems with it after the update.

Have got I.E.7 installed on this computer, automatic updates do come in handy as do seeing what custom updates you can istall from the Microsoft Update page. So far havent had any compliaints about I.E. 7, yet.

As a web developer I've to say I'm pleased with the convertion towards the W3C standart both on DOM and on CSS by the IE7. Microsoft is finally realizing that they do not own the world wide web and that they have to comply with certain rules. Standarts were never a bad thing, they are very useful for developing anything ranging from software to hardware.

This said, I still perfer firefox to IE7, the plugins for FF are just too great for any real competition. IE is just fine if you are just an average www user though.

Two thumbs for microsoft for IE7. :-)
