It's some kind of powder, and my mom bought it for me a while ago.. "Mix it with your rice when you cook and it will taste better".. I didn't believe it at first, but, polite as I am, I couldn't refuse.
Anyways, it does make your rice taste better!! Just a few teaspoons of it in your pan (or rice-cooker for those youngsters and oldsters who cannot cook rice without an automatic rice cooker.. Amateurs!!), and it will make your rice taste fresher!! Amazing stuff..

I prefer to cook rice with a ordinary pan.. I was shocked by the fact that the majority of the Japanese people (at least the people I know) don't know how to cook rice without a rice cooker!!
