Oh, no, any help at all is brilliant, thank you! I don't have anyone to ask and it's frustrating when parts of a story escape you, so I'm really grateful for the help you guys give here.

Do 凄みand 凄味 have different meanings? Here, does 凄み mean something like 'intensity'/ 'force' (of their power)? And does 回されている here have a similar meaning to the later used 囲まれてる? (it's surrounding them, or he expects that it will?)

凄み is the only way I see it in the dictionary, so I think they're the same, and the 味 is used somewhat creatively by certain writers.

回されてる is similar to 囲まれてる, but the focus is a bit different. It's like "we've been outflanked" and "we're surrounded", I guess. The end result is probably the same, but the account of how it happened is slightly different. At least that's what I think. I'm interested to see what Toritoribe will say about that.

I think it's more likely "unmanageable"; not "they can't control themselves" but "we can't control them".

He thinks this phenomenon should be called "RE:BORN" for them, not "revival", because after they regained consciousness (= 気が付けば), their bodies had been changed to machines.

Yes. I don't know who the speaker is, but "this equipment" might refer to "the opponents' equipment" if he is in "RE:BORN" side.

Oh, it will - they're fighting against people who used to be their allies, who expected the RE:BORN side would turn against them. The man they're talking about in the second line [何かの拍子に・・・] did the same thing (so the enemy knew they would do this too, hence the unusual equipment to kill them.) If "拍子に" refers only to "RE:BORNを果てして" that makes more sense because they don't know what triggered it... it's a strange story.

These is the last clip of audio segments of it I'm unsure on. I apologise for all these clips; it's a story I decided to write out because there is no Japanese/ English transcript of it anywhere. These are mainly one word, or checking a phrase: qsub.mp4

It's an audio story that came with a CD. Honestly, I've looked everywhere, and I've been unable to find anything more than quotes from it. 本家 seems to have to do with family? He's a visiting student who 積極的にドイツの本家に溶け込んでいった, so he made an effort to fit in with the Germans, or something like that?

And does 9 work as a stand alone sentence? "My allies cruelly wiped out the fleeing enemies." Is "までに" sort of like "to the point it was cruel..."?

Yes and yes. Purely grammatically, that's just a clause, but performs as a sentence. (Notice the fact that the present tense is used there. It gives 臨場感 "the feeling/sence as if being the place" to the sentence.)

I see. Well, the whole story is written in the form of a letter, so he's telling someone about the events as he narrates it... the tense hopping got confusing at times. That must be why, though. Thanks!

And for 5), this was the preceding sentence (that I hope I've heard correctly?): 軍学校卒業すると正式にはいぞくさきがいいわたされた。リュウイチは軍旅のはいぞくはなされず。
I think he's saying you're officially given an assignment when you graduate from 軍学校, but did his friend not make it/ do that?

So where would the 戦ったんだ factor in? He's fighting to do that (survive)? "I didn't know anything about tomorrow (?) but I fought to somehow survive to the end of the war"? The whole nuance of the sentence confuses me a little.

Oh, good! Then, what's the exact meaning of なされず here (-zu is "without doing ___", I think?) Does it connect to the 大学時代 sentence? The 身を寄せていた makes me think it does... not a verb I've come across before, though.

Both are possible. Some words have different intonations between the homophones, and others are distinguished only by the context.

Ahhhhh! Got it, thank you! I never thought it might be taken as staying with ハレマイエル because of something I'd previously read about his house. Thank you for clarifying that, it's been bugging me for a while.

It's definitely not 軍隊... although it could be just 軍(へ) alone, if that works too?

I feel embarrassed about not picking up the 明日 point, the amount of songs I've been reading through lately that use 明日 in that abstract future sense has been silly.

It's not a hearing point, but if it's okay to ask as it ties in with one of the lines - following 出頭した・・・ (his friend was working there before he appeared there) he wonders if it was his friend who had called him back from the frontline (knowing the answer.) Then he says. いや。彼にそんなけんけんはなかった." What does けんけん mean here?

That fits! His friend betrays him and I wasn't sure if it was referencing that or not.

The next line is: 日本人の彼がどう手を尽くしたって、そんなことはできなかった and also added to that. Had his friend tried all possible means not to be able to call him home? (as in, he didn't want him to come back.)

It says that even if his friend tried all possible means to call him home, it would be impossible to do it since his friend is Japanese. (I.e., the one who called him back is not his friend.)

That definitely goes with the next line ("the ones who greeted me were...") Thank you! It was his friend's fault he was called back in the first place, even though he wasn't the guy who summoned him, so I didn't know if it was to do with that or not.

If it's okay to ask it here (it's all about the same story I'm nearly done working through): one man says to another that they should end the battle, and then says 我々の手で, I think? If I've heard this right, is he saying "[let's end it] by our own hand"?

And this is all narrated as a letter, meaning he talks in past tense mostly, but at times he'll revert to the present tense like before, and there'll be と at the end of the sentence. Does this work as a quoting particle here?
