Zao, Tashirojima, Okunoshima and Nara are all places where wild animals are roaming free and are used to contact with humans.
They will be one of my main spots to visit in Japan, so I want to hear from people that know way more than me, what are the customs at those places.
e.g. initially I wanted to eagerly visit the fox village in zao. but the more I researched, the more concerned i became about how the foxes there are handled. So i'm about to remove it from my list.
Nara on the other hand is a place where deers are very well treated - or so i heard. You can feed them and apparently petting is also allowed, unless you're too agressive about it.
but what about okunoshima and tashirojima? I found contradicting oppinions about what and whether even to bring food and feed the animals there, if it's okay to play with them and pet them.
and i'm also curious about your oppinions and general remarks you might have that i should consider before going there, how would you go about it, or did you actually already go there? and if yes, what did you do, how did you like it and did it meet your expectations?
