What is this man saying?

There's a new game out for the PSP in japan. PSP is a video game handheld made by sony. The game probably wont' come to america, because its very, very weird.

Now click 'gameplay video 1', then click 'gameplay video number 4.'. There, a man who is muscular says stuff in japanese and in english "muscle, muscle" then counts from 10 down to 1 in japanese.

Here's another question about japanese. He doesn't say the numbers right it seem.s Isn't it, ichi, ni, san, shi, go, rohk, shichi, hachi, ku, ju?

He says them differently. Hmm.

Watch it, its hilarious. Could you understand what he's saying?

He doesn't say the numbers right it seem.s Isn't it, ichi, ni, san, shi, go, rohk, shichi, hachi, ku, ju?

He's just saying 'yon' instead of 'shi' and 'nana' instead of 'shichi'..

Mikecash, how'd you do that? I would've given you a direct link but I didn't know how. As when I right click a video etc it doesn't give me the URL .

Wow, so theres different ways to say the same numbers in japanese? In english, it goes one, two, three, four, five, six, seven, eight, nine, ten. And that's it, no other alternate numbers.

Never heard of the last ones there. What are they used for? I suppose there are different number systems (and therefore different words) for different objects? For people it may be different than inanimate objects?

Counting small objects that don't fall under any of the other categories, furniture, luggage and certain pieces of food (oranges, apples etc) for instance you can use this (kun, or native Japanese) numbering system for.

Don't sweat counters yet, GCL. Just know that when you're counting certain things there are special counters for different kinds of objects (generic counters, flat stackable objects, small things, people, animals, pieces of machinery, bottles, etc).

Some of these have special words for counting up to ten (like days of the month) then become fairly standard after ten. Again, no point in worrying about this stuff yet.

lol I busted up when i watched that. He basically says what you'd expect a narcissistic bodybuilder to say. "amazing, aren't i? you want to become like me don't you? eat ramen!"

He seems obsessed with ramen, and uses some pretty bad puns like "ladies and gentleramen," and "massuru ramen, umai zo! meshi agare!" where he could be referring either to himself or the ramen as being great or delicious, so eat up.

I think i've been scarred emotionally by this video...

HE spoke pretty good english, especially the 'r'. I'm surprised.

he refers to himself as "ラーメンタイマー" so I think the point is for you to watch him show off his muscles for three minutes while your instant ramen cooks.

"準備はええのか？are you ready?" means just what he said
ラーメンマッスル... ramen muscles, no meaning
どうだ、すごいだろう... how is it/what do you think? amazing right?

I have to go, but i'll say that this probably isn't a very good study aid. It's a bit better than the numa numa song--at least it's actually in Japanese--but it's not much more than listening practice. Bear in mind that he's not using very polite speech and you shouldn't speak like him, especially if you'll be approaching any more random Japanese people.
