dai suki desu is more of a "i really like you a lot. ^_^" not a SERIOUS "I love you," but it can be used as a more mellow form of "I love you". In summary it means the person really likes you a lot and probably has a SUPER CRUSH on you.

Aishiteru is a more serious way of saying, "I love you."

Decide early on whether you want to be 名無しさん or not. There are advantages and disadvantages to both ways. If you do use a username then add a トリップ (trip) which you do by typing #somestuff after your name. (Remember what 'somestuff' is because you might lose it later).
コテハンs (people with fixed names) generally have a reputation - and this naturally makes them bigger targets for the general 2ch crap. On the other hand if you don't have a fixed name you'll have trouble persuading people you know what you're talking about with regards to the English language. (Well, you will anyway with some people - see tip one). Posting under 名無しさん means never having to say you're sorry because they won't (generally) know it's you when you post again.
