...but not necessarily in a good way.

I've known all along this year that I've been neglecting listening practice, instead concentrating on the more "nobel" task of kanji and grammar. And it's finally paid off. I just did a JLPT level 3 pre-test and I scored almost 100% for the kanji section, the vocab section was ok, but the listening section was a disaster. I literally could not get one answer. Every answer I gave was based around some sort of random guess from keywords that I heard.

There is two weeks until the test, so I'll do nothing but listening practice until then.

Does anyone have any recommendations for level 3 style listening questions apart from the past-tests?

I think I have a great idea!

Why don't you ask Kyoko_desu to read some dialogue or text for listening practice? You can download the MP3 file for you to listen again and again!

Maybe you also need a male voice, too, but I don't know any native-speaking male here... Any volunteers?

PS. If you can prepare something to read, I can ask my husband to read it for you and upload it in the audioblog website!

You really should have started improving your listening comprehension a lot earlier than two weeks before the test...
Past test stuff is obviously going to be the best thing you can use to study. Also, the magazine called "Nihongo Journal" includes some past-paper style audio tests, I used them almost exclusively before my test and that really helped (but I started two months before).

Bucko-san, yes, if you want me to, I would always be happy to help you by reading some Japanese texts ...... only if you don't mind my local accent though, hehehe. But! epigene-san, I really really would love to hear YOU and your husband's voices and you two are in Tokyo, so your pronunciations must be far better than mine. You guys gotta help him too yo! Thanks for your offer Kyoko, yours too epigene but I've got myself a heap of example JLPT questions that I think I'll work on. Thanks anyway though.

Regarding these practice questions, I've found that they're more than just simply listening to dialogue, some of them are really nasty in that they require a bit more (*shock horror*) rational thought! Like, there's this one question where a guy is telling people what not to forget for tomorrow's trip. The question is "what do they certainly need to take", but the guy goes on about how sandals would be convenient, and that if it looks like it'll rain then you'll need an umbrella. But the only things that are truly needed are the money for the trip, and a bentou (because you can only by cakes at the place they're going). And you have to work all this out at natural speed! I'm not sure if I could even pass this test in English!

Man, if this is level 3 then I'd hate to see what level 2 and 1 are like.
