Yes, the World Baseball Classic has started! As I type this, it is the bottom of the third innining in Japan's opening game against China, and Nakajima just came home to give Japan a 1-0 lead!

What are your predections? Or if you'd like to comment on the games as they progress, go right ahead! This thread is for all things WBC 2009!

Oooooo! The next batter looked like he might have a homerun, too, for a minute. Too bad it was short.

Which means it was caught for the third out, and it's now the top of the 4th.

This next game looks to be too easy for Japan against Korea. I don't have any info on Japan's pitcher but I expect it to be Darvish, maybe? If it's Dravish, expect an 8-2 win by Japan. Btw, what a nice surprise by the Nederlands by beating Dominican Republic.

Well, Japan beat China 4-0 and they absolutely trounced Korea 14-2 shortly thereafter.

Yes, the next game is against Korea again, (actually it's going on as I write this) but we'll see how it goes. Didn't Korea win the gold in baseball in the Olympics? I seem to reamember hearing that the team for the WBC is basically the same members.

I would expect tonight's game to be much more difficult than the last one, if only because the Koreans are very proud and they now have something to prove.

It's the second inning now, and the pitcher for Japan is Iwakuma. The score is 0-0.

Very disappointed in the utter lack of sportsmanship from the Korean team. Bad memories of the world cup.

It's the bottom of the 4th, and this has been a big inning for Japan! They got 5 runs in to capture the lead 6-2!

Last night I saw a show where the NHK pro baseball commentator was predicting a score of about 3-2, so nobody was expecting this kind of scoring! Of course the game is only half over, so Japan can't relax yet!

Interesting time in the staff room today as I was providing updates on the US-Japan game...obviously I was the only one pulling for America and was hoping for a better showing But they got stomped fair and square and I'm pulling for Japan to beat SK!

South Korea and Japan seem like they were just destined to be rivals this year. Tomorrow's game is going to be exciting any way you look at it. My guess is that the score will be 1-0, favoring Japan.
