I hear & read warnings all the time about requests for personal info over the PC. I got one this week from PayPal which I use a lot asking for me to up-date my info for them. I went to the PayPal website and they have a special link to check out fake requests: [email protected]
So I forwarded the request from PayPal to that site above and got a nice reply saying it was a FAKE even though it looked just like paypal's site. I guess it pays not to believe anything you see on the internet. The site listed above says it will check out any company /credit card/bank request you receive for info if you are worried about giving info out; just forward the request you get to that site and they will get back to you within a day or so.
Beware & take care!

Well, the easiest way to avoid phishing attempts (since this is not restricted to Paypal) is not to use the links in any email you get with such a request. Use your own bookmarks or type the URL by hand! On the original website you can find out what's up (if anything is up).

Indeed, i never use the links i get in emails. Most companies specifically say they will never ask for information from you by email anyway. But if you for some reason thinnk that possible then always go to the site by typing the address your using bookmarks, never by email.

ugh i just got it today and instantly deleted it :D how smart i am :proud:

Get these sort of emails from banks and building societies. I just delete them. It is quite amusing when you get one from banks you have never used and they say 'As one of our loyal customers...', yeah, right, delete.

Paypal is really weird. One time I had to set up a new bank account because I was afraid that someone had a hold of my account number and so that account was deleted. Well Paypal still had me listed under that account and I went to buy something off of Ebay and the guy never recieved my money. He wrote me a really nasty e-mail and threatened me and what not. But I would've thought that Paypal would've deleted my account so that I could start over and they never did. I had forgotten to change everything on there but you would think that if my account had been closed, they would've known. Oh well, they made me look like a crook. It was weird.

Yeah, I got a few of those from ebay and paypal, and they look almost legit. But I'm too smart for that junk.
