Wakkanai City sets record high and low temperatures within two weeks

A city in northern Japan just recorded its coldest summer temperature in 128 years. It came 2 weeks after the same city hit one of its hottest temperatures ever.

buckle up, we're in for a wild rollercoaster ride of extreme weather events for the foreseeable future. Even if we urgently "step up" and follow the recommendations by experts, things are going to get rough... and I am not so optimistic that humanity is capable of cooperating at that level.

For people who do not know, Wakkanai is the northernmost point in Japan. Here is a video of a journey by train and bus up to Wakkanai. (This video is from Sapporo to Wakkanai, but I think the first part of this trip was from Tokyo to Sapporo by Shinkansen.) The monument you see is exactly on the northernmost point in Wakkanai and Japan.)
