I realize that the multi-quote function works for some and not for others and is limited to quotes from the first post in a thread.

However J-Bot is able to multi-quote any number of posts, no matter the "location" in a thread. Here is an example from today in the file attachment, taken from "This Post".

Here is my question if J-Bot is capable of making multi quotes from any location from within a thread is it possible for the rest of us "human's" to have the same capabilities when posting here?

I have no idea. I basically stopped even bothering to try to use the multi-quote soon after its implementation.

I'm sure it's possible, as it's only a matter of using the right hack, but whether it will happen is another question entirely.

Thanks for replying, maybe it is one thing the Admin might consider putting on his "things to do list".

I know some people do not like it because on occasion, if abused, some people will over multi-quote and we get all those boxes with tons of quotes quoting quotes.

In my opinion though if used correctly and not abused it is a very helpful and handy function particularly when making replies on some topics where it is very helpful to know what is being said in reply to what.

Thanks for your reply. I think I just answered my own question in how to use it, just have to do it manually.

I believe that the multi-quote function, if it worked, is supposed to allow you to quote several previous posts at the same time. It's not supposed to provide nested quotes.
Pretty sure that J-bot is internally adding its own [.quote] tags, like you just did, and it has nothing to do with the multi-quote function.

Y-know, I just tried to use the multi-quote function, and it worked just fine, though I thought it didn't work in the past. Just clicked the
button in a few posts and then hit reply and there they were, ready to be quoted.

Here's my attempt at the multi-quote thing!

Here's another attempt. After this, I will write a longer post with my observations.

Now I will bring together my observations:

The multi-quote function does indeed work for us users to quote from anywhere in the thread in any order.

However, there's a certain art to get it to work right, and though I can do it, I am no pro. It's a bit tricky. Anyway, you have to click on the multiquote icon of the post you want to quote, but the trick is, you have to keep your mouse button pressed until the icon turns orange in colour.

You may need to try several times before getting it to work.

Finally, you must use the regular quote function on the final post you wish to quote to bring up the new-post-page.

Quotes will show up in the order you selected them.

There seems to be no restriction on the order or which quotes can be included.

I hope this helps.

Ok I tried it here, but I think my mistake was with the terminology of what I wanted to do, not multi-quote per say, but to use nested quotes.
Also when I hold on the multi-quote option it automatically takes me to the message reply screen and I have to hit the back button on my browser to pick other posts that I wish to quote as well.
All in all it seems to me at least to be a bit clumsy to use efficiently.

I have tried the multiple-quote function a couple of weeks ago and I couldn't get it worked (and it pissed me off at that time). But I guess this was just one of the bugs in the previous Vbulletin version, because after the forum upgrade 3-4 weeks ago it worked perfectly for me.

Have a nice day.

Seems to work ok for me...Thanks, I'm glad you started this thread. I learned something new today!

haven't we almost exact thread like this? started by same person :? and nothing changed about it since then, so I think it will not now...

Yes you are correct, but this time I made the mistake of confusing the multi-quote function with nested quotes.

Please accept my apologizes if I offended anyone, that was not my intent, I wanted to learn how to used the multi quote as well as the nested quote functions.

sorry, but isn't that same thing as last time

NHF, I do not mind, open as many threads as you want.

I hope you will get your answer one day soon

Okay! That's clever... but it doesn't turn orange until you release the mouse button for me, so there is some indeterminate amount of time that you have to hold the mouse button down...

What browser are you using? I'm using Firefox, which isn't my first choice in browsers if you want to know the truth--- I think IE7 renders pages much better and Firefox is sort of stuck in a perpetual past, but that's neither here nor there....

Hello, I'm quoting you for no reason...

Seems to work for me, but your mileage may vary.

Thanks Mikawa Ossan!

Hi, I just quoted you to say hi!

Hmmm...I'm not sure, but actually, I have the same thing where it doesn't turn colour until I release the mouse button. How long? 2, 3 seconds perhaps?
EDIT: I have been playing around some more, and it seems that just a regular click will do the trick...
Thanks Mikawa Ossan!
No problem! I hope the check is in the mail!

Testing...

Apparently we do indeed have the ability to use the multi-quote option across threads! When you do so, the posts from the other threads do not automatically show up, but instead there is a little splash of text under the itext input box asking you if you really want to quote the other posts or not.

Wow, I've learned a lot in this thread, too!

Me too btw, I know I asked about this capability on another thread, but it seems that that this time I have learned more about the functions available here then on the "other" thread.
Thanks to all for your cooperation and help in instructing me on how to better utilize the functions of this board.

Oh and one more thing....Mikawa san.....when did you start scrubbing floors for a living, I know you were looking for a new job but..............
