My wife has been offered some work translating technological papers from Japanese to English vice versa but we need to find some typing software we can download so she can do it.

Does anybody know of any at all? - it is very important we get hold of it.

Thanks

Notepad.

In all seriousness, any thing Windows comes with will work, you just have to enable Japanese fonts (and possibly input) on your PC. Do you have Windows XP. You can go to the Control Panel (Regional Settings) and add Japanese as a language.

If she needs to type in Japanese, you need to add the Japanese IME (Input Method Editor) which is also found in the Regional Settings.

Both of the above will require the install disc, FYI.

In addition to GaijinPunch's suggestion (which must be followed if you want Japanese language capability for your PC), you may need this software if the documents require some sophisticated formatting:

OpenOffice

Still, I recommend getting full-fledged ("buy") word-processing software such as Microsoft Office if your wife plans to pursue it as a career.

Also, this is a better Japanese input software than the Japanese IME that comes with Windows operating system:
ATOK

HTH!

If she uses Mac, she can write in English, Japanese, and other languages using TextEdit (comes with OS), MS Word (expensive), OpenOffice (free), NeoOffice (free), and others.

As I can see she is getting paid for the work, the full featured tried-and-tested business software such as MS Office should fit the bill for her use.

NOOO! Buying Microsoft stuff is contributing to the problem. Open Office is a heavy turd as well, but it's free, and for anything you're going to do on a word processor, it works fine.
