Though reclassified an "extratropical low-pressure system," Typhoon No. 4, aka Typhoon Aere, made landfall in the Kyushu region yesterday, unleashing torrential rains onto parts of Kyushu and Shikoku. I learned a new meteorological term today: "linear precipitation zone" or "linear rainbands", in Japanese 線状降水帯 senjō kōsuitai.

Up to 200 millimeters of rain during a 24-hour period through 6 a.m. on July 5 is forecast for the southern Kyushu and Shikoku regions, 150 mm for the northern Kyushu and Kinki regions and 120 mm for the Amami region. Some areas from eastern to northern Japan are forecast to be hit with heavy rain because of warm, humid air blowing around the edge of a high-pressure system. butThe agency has forecast up to 100 mm of rain during a 24-hour period through 6 a.m. on July 5 for the Tokai and Kanto-Koshin regions, 80 mm for Hokkaido and the Tohoku regions, and 60 mm for the Hokuriku region. It is calling on people in these areas as well to be prepared for mudslides and other disasters.

Typhoon No. 11 ("Hynnamnor") is expected to hit Okinawa on Sunday and Monday and continue to Kyushu on Tuesday.

The typhoon, the 11th of the season, is expected to pack winds of up to 234 kilometers per hour around the Sakishima Islands and 108 kph near Okinawa on Saturday. Conditions are expected to worsen on Sunday, with winds of up to 252 kph whipping the Sakishima Islands and up to 126 kph hitting the prefecture's main landmass.

Typhoon No. 14 ("Nanmadol") made landfall in Kagoshima, traversing Kyushu and heading to Honshu. About two million people in southwestern Japan have been ordered to evacuate.

Miyazaki Prefecture saw linear rainbands with over 400 millimetres of precipitation recorded in some areas in the 24 hours through Sunday afternoon. The Shikoku, Chugoku and Kinki regions in western Japan could see linear rainbands through Monday morning, the agency warned. This marks the first time the agency has issued a special typhoon warning for an area apart from Okinawa Prefecture. Although the typhoon had weakened slightly by 3 a.m. Sunday, there was still a possibility of maximum gusts of around 250 kilometres per hour. In Yakushima, Kagoshima Prefecture, top wind speeds of up to 183.24 kph were recorded on Sunday morning.

Out for a ride yesterday morning, leaving soon for today's version of that. While it is supposed to rain much later, tonight and then tomorrow, and is supposed to get windy (the eye may pass directly over here--Kanazawa), at this point, absolutely nothing.

There is no damage for the moment.

As there was Fukuoka in center of a typhoon until a while ago, it was windless, but entered the storm zone again because a typhoon went north now.

As a typhoon passes in another several hours, you must clear off the thing which was made to fly.

3 precious consecutive holidays were able to go because of a typhoon nowhere.

Locally, the Tour de Noto took place this weekend--and they're on their final leg back into Kanazawa from Nanao/Noto-jima today. Today's section was shorter, maybe 90km or so, I'd guess everyone is back already. They may have had some sprinkles, but were lucky. Wind, too, is only now picking up, so that was not a problem (e.g., no big headwind).

They showed Wajima in the news. The Noto Peninsula was battered pretty badly by No.14.

While it seems to weaken, Nanmadol left a trail of destruction.

In Miyazaki Prefecture, a man was found dead after his mountainside cabin was destroyed in a mudslide, and another man was confirmed dead after being pulled out of a car submerged in flooded farmland. A man was reported missing in Hiroshima and at least 115 people were injured, according to prefectural governments and the disaster management agency. More than 100,000 homes were still without power Tuesday, Kyushu Electric Power said, adding that it hopes to fully restore power by the end of Wednesday. Landslides and a fallen bridge were confirmed in the mountainous region of Miyazaki Prefecture, while part of the Hikone Castle structures, designated an important cultural property, in Shiga Prefecture was found damaged. The Meteorological Agency forecast winds of up to 108 kph in northeastern Japan and waves of up to 7 meters in western Japan on Tuesday.

Headline in the evening paper today said it reached 32.9 m/s in Wajima, 26.7 here.

(double those numbers for knots, so 66 and 53 knots, and mph would be a little more than that)
