1. Does "kurokane" mean anything? Just checking. It's not supposed to.

2. About the IME thing. I finally figured out how to type Japanese, but now I have no idea which key goes with which character. Can anyone help me with this? I have it set to Japanese input.

Don't think so. 黒金 for example is read "kurogane".

Do you have it set to "kana input" ? If so then set it to "romaji input".

If you don't know then check the
Tools icon -> Properties
and look for Input Method.

Is that "It's set to Romaji input and now it works." or "It's set to Romaji input but I still don't know what I'm doing." ?

:D

The second. It was already set to Romaji.
So
1. Do you know romaji?
2. If (in JP, あ mode) you type kyouha and then [space] do you get 今日は ?

1. Not much. But even if I did, it just seems kind of stupid you have to go and figure out what each button does.

2. ノンラナクチ

That's "kyouha ".

Well the thing is that you shouldn't have to go and figure out what each button does. If it's working properly. I know exactly what I'd get if I typed kyouha[return] ( きょうは ) and I've got a good idea of what options I'll have if I press [space] a time or two before pressing [return].

It certainly isn't. 😅
It's ノンラナクチ which is son'nakuchi in half-width katakana. I've read about someone with a similar problem but unfortunately I can't recall exactly where.

きょうは

That's it, I think. Had it set to "Direct Input", this is in Hiragana mode. I think the other thing just turned my keyboard into a Japanese one or something like that. This is how I remember IME from good old Win98. Anyway, thanks for your help.
