Dearest members and moderation team of jref.com,
I have just finished serving a thirty day ban from the forum. In this time, it has come to my attention that my opinions and that of the majority of the members do not mix well together, and that I will no longer be a member of this community for the sake of my personal happiness and the well-being of the forum. While it may seem acceptable to others to condone excessive prejudices, homophobia, and the derailment of threads by taking them to be attacks on Islam, Sharia Law, and so forth, it is not acceptable whatsoever to me. In fact, in light of my displeasure with the aforementioned issues, it must be noted that I have tried my best to simply argue my points(That have mostly revolved around human rights regardless of religion, gender, sexual orientation, and race).
How long have I been coming to this forum? I've seen many changes, and I've been permanently banned once before, and I've met people who I considered friends, and there were indeed those who did not share the same bonds to me as I did to them. To look back to the time I joined for a moment, it was the second semester of my freshman year in high school. I'm 21, going on 22 on November 12th, and it pains me that I will no longer be an actively contributing member to this forum on this forum on that date. I've been on many forums, and I've seen many moderation teams come and go, and to be honest, this current team has severely wronged me, and it is the reason that I no longer seek to participate in the community. There was no need to ban me for any amount of time. It is the fault of the moderation team for not taking their duties on this forum seriously. It was simply easier to ban me than work through the issues I was upset over. I'm sure there's going to be a witty response proclaiming how I'm acting out, but feel free to disregard that reply when it comes up. Nothing more than utter nonsense.
A community handled by a moderation team who feels that way is simply not one I wish to participate in. While I have taken questionable actions on this forum in the past, while intoxicated or sober, it doesn't really add up to the mistreatment I've taken while trying to reinvigorate the forum with new threads and my opinions. So, it is with great sadness that I must say farewell to my friends on this forum, whether or not the bond of friendship is reciprocated is of no concern to me. I hope JREF is able to evolve and fit in better with the changing world around it, so that I may be able to visit a more lively community in the future, hopefully with a more seasoned and wise moderation team.
I am now posting this thread and logging off until a much later date(Think between 1 and 2 years). Perhaps this message will be deleted and I will be permanently banned. The latter really isn't inconceivable... Goodbye!
