Too late for my daughter to get american citizenship?

Hey everyone,

My daughter was born in Japan and has Japanese citizenship.

I've heard that it's possible to still get my daughter citizenship even if she was born in Japan. Is this correct?

Is it a long difficult process? Where do I start?

My daughter is 2 going on 3. Is it too late?

If you know of any websites about this kind of thing I would be very greatful if you'd share them with me.

I believe she can hold both passports until she is 18 and then must declare citizenship of one or the other, as Japan does not allow dual citizenship. If you are in Japan, why not contact the US embassy for information?

Report the birth of your daughter ASAP to the American Embassy. I don't know what is involved, but sooner the better.

If you don't like to go through long processes, you'll have to say goodbye to US citizenship for your daughter. Let alone what is involved in the report of birth and passport issue for your daughter right now, she as a foreign-born US citizen will have to go through a process quite similar to naturalization of a foreign national when she arrives in the US to finalize her US citizenship. I know this is true because a couple of my friends did, and so did the kids of my friends.
