Tokyo ~ Summer 08' [really that bad?]

Hiya, xD
I might be going to Japan for the first time this year - (July/August) - but I am having doubts. I have heard that a summer vacation in Tokyo will be very hectic and that many will have no time to relax. Moreover, I was told that Tokyo is just way tooo busy for a vacation; but I want to relax this summer - after my exams - and am very interested in Japan&& don't have another chance to go ~ so, should I go?
I know what you guys think: stupid question right?
I want to go, however, I really want to have a good time if I go. &&if it turns out to be a real bad vacation it will all be my fault (since I am the one raving about Japan all the time). Please help me!

Don't worry about it. For the average tourist, Japan is no busier than anywhere else. Look at it this way, there'll be fewer Americans there as the dollar is not performing well against the yen in currency exchange. Many will wait it out for when the dollar is back up.

I went during the summer of 2004 and had a great time. You can do as little or more as you choose.

I was just told that the experience was "suffocating" as there are so many people in Tokyo - hope that's not that case - I wouldn't like getting suffocated on holiday

One advice for your Harun: start booking hotels right now, or you'll get into trouble (if you aren't already).

I recommend Tokyo Park Hotel. I just loved it.
Awesome view, good location, neat rooms.

The only thing suffocating are the temperatures and humidity during summer. Be prepared to drink a lot of water and pack t-shirts and shorts (cargo shorts are usually best as they have a lot of pockets to carry stuff).

: thanks for the advice! To be honest, I think I am ready for the Tokyo weather; I generally love summer and we have not had a decent summer [weather-wise] here in England for a long time ~

Get ready for something you have never experienced before. I live in Houston, Texas, known for its high humidity and temperatures. August in Nagoya was even worse than here, something I didn't think was possible. Tokyo is no joy either in the summer.

Because of the high heat and humidity, I haven't noticed that many tourists in Japan during the summer. Seems like you always get more in the spring and fall months.

I will be ready for the experience, hopefully hehe. I have been to Pakistan twice (in the summer) &&it was v/hot so I am kind of expecting an extremely hot&humid tokyo summer from all the posts- thanks, for the info &&hopefully it will not bother me too much; if it does, oh well, at least I am in Tokyo - for the first time - right?

Sure you will survive. The first time I went to Japan was last summer. Temperatures were even higher then usually that time. Yes, the air does feel very hot and you are sweating all the time but it made me feel even more like I was in a different country so I didn't mind.

And if you are planning out a relaxing holiday, the weather probably won't bother you that much.
