tips for learning Katakana?

I just finished learning Hiragana and i did it by turning the symbol into a picture, but the Katakana symbols are less creative and its really hard for me to remember them, are there any websites that help you with Katakana? using the flash card method doesn't seem to work for me because i almost never get it right so i dont really learn,

I did learn hiragana and katakana in parallel. As a practice, I did wrote the same phrases both in hiragana and katakana, it is weird, but it is work.
Just do it daily for 20-30 minutes, and You will be fluent in a month

Thanks! one month? that seems a lot considering it took me 2 days to learn Hiragana, Although i do keep forgetting ら and わ all the time!

Usually I am forgetting in a week all things which I learn in two days, so I need extra practice all the time. Being old has some advantages.

Katakana is starting to give me a headache, in 50 minutes i learned what? 6 character... i will probably forget them tomorrow as well,

also, do you think its necessary to learn katakana to be able to learn kanji? because kanji looks really intresting.

Do you think it is necessary to learn simple one-digit addition before learning calculus? Because simple one-digit addition gives me a headache but calculus looks interesting.

You should read something about katakana, for example that book.

You will understand that both hiragana and katakana were developed from the same kanji, and most of them are similar. That will help You to memorize them. Another thing is: You should practice handwriting words and phrases using both hiragana and katakana, in that case visual memory will be accomplished with motion memory and that is much more effective way to memorize.

There are many reasons to learn katakana. First of all, most of foreign words are written with katakana. Another thing is related to nature of kanji. These characters were borrowed from China and they often have two ways to read, one is japanise and another is chinse. Many kanji dictionaries have transcription of characters given in hiragana for japanese way to read and katakana used for chinese, and that is more than just convinience.
BTW, to be proficient in japanese, You should learn both hiragana and katakana.

Some advice from a fellow beginner, if I may.

Yes you need katakana. You will encounter it everywhere in Japan - from restaurant menus, to supermarkets, to street signs - as loanwords are plentiful. Sometimes it's even used to emphasize something normally written in hiragana and/or kanji.

Hiragana and katakana can easily be studied by rote learning because there's so few of them. The most important thing is to use the characters to write words. If you don't apply what you study, you will get nowhere.

You can write lots of short words in hiragana: あめ、いぬ、ねこ、いす、かぜ、こうちゃ、やおや、とうきょう、こんにちは、…
For katakana, you can write loanwords: ネクタイ、ケーキ、シーディープレイヤー、スーパー、ホッチキス、イギリス、…

Save the hocus pocus for kanji.

Most of these are English words converted into katakana.

Then I use a katakana chart to figure out the readings then guess the english meaning. I do it by hand, without using a translator or a dictionary. It gets super difficult at times.
