I am travelling next week to tokyo and am having nightmares about the train system I ahve looked at the websites and it seems to make it worse for me. I am partially sighted which means reading signs is very difficult for me so I ahve to plan before I go for everything. I ahve decided to ake the taxi form the airport to the hotel and work it out from there.

Does anyone know how much a taxi would be roughtly to lalaport or if not at least to a line where I can get to lalaport directly. I can at least make sure I take enoguh cash withme

Narita airport is actually in Chiba Prefecture; it will cost you upwards of 30,000 yen to take a taxi to Tokyo. I'd recommend you suck it up and take the train, or a limousine bus.

Also, there are vocal announcements on the train that tell you what the next station is, in case you're worried about missing your stop.
 

It depends on where you'll be staying, but if the hotel you'll be staying is located in central Tokyo, I do not recommend to take a taxi from the airport. If you're arriving at Narita airport, it would cost you more than JPY20,000, which is not really worthwhile as there are trains and bus services available.

Travelling by metro and JR line should not be a big problem, if you get the map and nearest stations to the places you wish to visit. Most stations have signs in English as well as Japanese, and in case of Tokyo metro, new numbering system was introduced so even you cannot remember the name of stations, you can remember the alphabet + number of the stations you should get off or to change.

As for Lalaport, it seems to be located just in front of Minami-funabashi station of JR line. You can take an express train from Tokyo station (JR Keiyo line), get of at Minami-funabashi station which is the 5th stop.

I will have to brave the trains on the first day. I will be staying in funbashi and am having buisness meetings in lalaport. IF this helps I will look into bus option as well

I've just been using some train routing sites and have found that it should be pretty easy to get from Narita to Funabashi. If we knew the name/address of the hotel, it would be easy to work out a route for you that will end near the hotel.

From the hotel to Lalaport....I think a taxi would give you the greatest peace of mind and the expense should be relatively small.

This hotel is located just behind Lalaport, I think it takes only 1-2 minutes on foot!


From Narita Airport to the hotel, I recommend to take a taxi. From the airport to Funabashi should not cost so much.
You can take trains but you have to change twice, which can be a little complicated.

He can do it with no changes at all. Straight from the airport to Funabashi Keibajou Station. Then a cab to the hotel. It should save him at least 10,000 yen.
 
There is a free bus from Funabashikeibajo Station

Not at all misleading. As the OP correctly surmised, it can be baffling. Even for folks who live in Japan and use the trains regularly.

The only reason I was able to come up with a zero transfer solution was that I noticed on the map provided by the hotel website that Funabashi Keibajou station is on the Keisei Line, the same line as the famous Keisei Skyliner which provides one of the simplest ways to go directly from the airport to Tokyo.

Every major station (and most of the minor ones) have designated taxi stands, usually with a line of waiting taxis. You'll have no trouble at all.
