Tamiflu

I'm reading Wuthering Heights now.

Do you remember the news that a lot of Japanese boys and girls jumped out of buildings after taking Tamiflu? If you don't, please read this page:

Tamiflu (Oseltamivir phosphate) which sounded so familiar that my husband and I glanced at each other surreptitiously. In Japan, people have been known to jump out of buildings after having taken Tamiflu, but only in Japan.

What I'm wondering is, was it because they have taken Tamiflu, or was it a general symptom with anyone who's caught a high fever.

Which do you think is the cause? Also, is it well known as described in the following part of Wuthering Heights that people who've caught a high fever are prone to "throw oneself downstairs, or out the window"? That is exactly what seems to be happening in Japan now!

Plot:Catherine confides to Nelly, the maid, her determination to marry Edgar. She was overheard by Heathcliff. Cathy got ill after Heathcliff ran off from her. A doctor was sent for. He tells to Nelly the following:

Doctor: She has a high fever. Take care she does not throw herself downstairs, or out the window!"

What I'm wondering is, was it because they have taken Tamiflu, or was it a general symptom with anyone who's caught a high fever.

It appears that the children that died in some way had a reaction to Tamiflu. I personally knew one of the children that died and it was a huge shock to say the least.

Doctors here quit prescribing Tamiflu for adolescents, and in many cases for adults as well. The drug works wonders at relieving the symptoms of the flu however since researchers can not directly pinpoint yet the reasons why children have these types of reactions to the drug it is best that it is taken off the market until a solution is found.

I think Tamiflu is awful! All three of my sons got the flu this year, and were prescribed it. It made all of them violently ill, making them throw up. I was prescribed it for use as a preventative, and after taking just one dose, I felt so sick. I think I'd just rather wait the flu out than take that horrible stuff again...

And for ages, I've always heard people say that a really high fever will make one "delirious". I know when I have a fever, I feel very out of it. I guess what the fever's toll on a person is, varies.

uhmmm, very wierd. My girlfriends father works for the company that produces Tamiflu and I knew this for sometime. Although I do find the symptoms strange as I have taken it before and felt great a few hours later.

I took tamiflu for a week. It was great. After 2 doses I felt like I would live. I think sometimes people read and hear many negative things about certain drugs and then when they take it they get the same problems. I am not saying that there aren't reactions, I just think there are some that are psychological in nature rather than a true reaction. I am allergic to cipro, codeine and morphine so I do believe that people can have problems. I would use Tamiflu again and I would recommend it.

Myself as well, however I would have serious doubts about giving it to my adolescent children.

In the case I refered to above the father had left their apartment for roughly 15 minutes to go out and purchase some food and drinks for his sick son who he was watching over. The son walked out the front door of the apartment went up to the 13 floor of the apartment complex, climbed up over a concrete barrier with steel bars at the top and fell to his death.

Today just happens to be the anniversary of this boys unfortunate death. I'll be saying a prayer for him today.
